I do all these things you guys do too. Lights stay off during the day, even on weekends.

I reuse ziplocks and paper bags, save plastic bags for trash bags, I camp, I even reuse paper towels that I've wiped my hands on after washing dishes. I save them for cleaning later.

I cut my family's hair and never go to the salon.

I don't have cable, a dryer, a car payment, and I buy nothing on credit. If I can't afford something now, then I don't buy it.

I don't eat more than I should (most of the time) in efforts to make the food that I buy stretch longer. I feed a family of 5 on $400 a month or less. It would be even less if I clipped coupons.

We also grow our own vegetables and herbs.

Danced my butt & thighs down from a 13 to a 6, going on 5. Although, walking 2 miles everyday, yoga and occasional pilates class probably helped too. I was a size 9 before I had my 2 DCs.

I don't do weights, sports or machines.
Oh the one in Clarendon is called Saffron Dance. I think all the classes are technique (either tribal or oriental). They even have a class for kids called Habibis.
You can try DC Dance Collective or Hot Mama Fitness. There is a belly studio in Clarendon that is metro accessible. And you may be able to find more on craigslist. I wish I could train more, but for now I just have tons of videos.

Rachel Brice's DVDs focus more on technique, less on fitness.
The guy in Australia. He was so hot in that movie.

Hey Zumbamama -- I'm the warm-color-abstracts painter/sometime-yogi/lifespan-extending poster... maybe I'll take your zumba class and introduce myself. Where do you teach?

Hey! I teach in Arlington, Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons (several DCUMs there!). And Monday mornings in Takoma Park starting April 6. (These are open to the public). All my info is at www.zumbadistrict.com
yes, my aunts always loved to say I looked 3 months bigger than I actually was. And I wanted to say, oh, you look 3 years older than you actually are...thanks!
my faves: Antonio Banderas, Hugh Jackson, Will Smith.

women: it's between Jessica Alba, Angelina and Jen. Although, I have always thought Angela Basset and Salma Hayek are super sexy too.
I have a paraffin foot/hand bath that makes them really soft (got it at Sally's). You dip them in a couple times, then wrap in plastic bags, and then wrap again in towels. Then there's all kinds of paraffin blends (with aloe, eucalyptus, etc.).
I read about many different religions and spiritual practices, but don't belong to any particular group. Yoga, the I Ching and dancing definitely awaken my spirit, even though I was brought up Catholic.

Talking with people who have escaped death is quite an enlightening experience...I know 2 people who have been pronounced dead after a heart attack and were then revived. Their experiences certainly have opened my eyes.

When I think of the loved ones I've lost, I look up to the sky and hope I will see them again in a better place. In my mind, I tell them I miss them just in case there is "the other side." I'm not religious, but I often think about what happens when we die, and what our purpose here is.
Changeling - the whole last half of the movie! A mix of tears, disgust and disbelief.

Took up painting a couple of years ago because I felt like there was a lot of yellow, red, and orange inside me trying to get out. I do abstract acrylics.
Take very long walks by myself while listening to NPR - I'm training for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.
Read the newspaper every day and novels every now and then.
Active in my synagogue, serving on the education board. I also enjoy going to Saturday morning services -- very meditative.
Serve on the board of a charity that raises money for medical research.
Yoga, but not nearly often enough.
Occasionally I treat myself to a massage or a facial.
Date nights with my husband at least monthly, and we go away overnight at least once every few months.
Went away with my mom for a spa week a couple of times in the past few years.
Keep up with scientific advances related to the effect of nutrition on health and lifespan, a special interest of mine.

Interesting..I do abstract acrylics also and all my paintings turn out to be in the warm tone range. Also enjoy yoga (working on certification for that) and also like to read about health and lifespan issues around the world.
On the upside, I have no car payments, credit card bills and have the kind of life my family in the Philippines can only dream about.

Both of us are college educated but not particularly career or money oriented. We're not particularly young either. There is often the assumption on this board that a big advantage of being an older parents is financial security. This isn't always the case!!

so true. I work full time, have a college degree, have 5 side jobs and am not as young as I look... and still make under 100k. People think if you make under that amount, you don't work as much or as hard. sooooooo not true!
If there's an empty seat on the metro, I never take it and leave it for someone else.

I volunteer classes/performances for various charities.

I send clothes and toys to people in the Philippines.
