Can anyone recommend belly dance classes in DC or close-in Maryland? I tried Sahara Dance but it felt a little too intense, and young for me, even though I am only 30! I danced for a number of years but stopped about 8-10 years ago so I probably want to start at entry or early intermediate again to get going. I am looking for something diverse, fun, with a teacher who has a real dance background, not gym or arobics based. Hopefully something where you learn a routine over the course of one series of classes, instead of spending 8 weeks just learning intro movement. Any suggestions? |
I asked for recommendations on a previous thread: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/22125.page#135357
My au pair ended up taking classes at Joy of Motion with Artemis and has been very happy. She's young but I get the impression that her classmates are a range of ages. http://www.joyofmotion.org/ |
You can try DC Dance Collective or Hot Mama Fitness. There is a belly studio in Clarendon that is metro accessible. And you may be able to find more on craigslist. I wish I could train more, but for now I just have tons of videos.
Rachel Brice's DVDs focus more on technique, less on fitness. |
Oh the one in Clarendon is called Saffron Dance. I think all the classes are technique (either tribal or oriental). They even have a class for kids called Habibis. |
