All of you pointing out all of this- REPORT HIM to DCUM and get him off these boards.. wtf- who with no kids is reading this -per subject line sexual molestation and children- and gets so defensive- PERVERT alert.

Somebody did report him, which I appreciate, and I do not believe the suspicions of him are well-founded. I would note that this is the "off-topic" forum and therefore one in which non-parents would find topics of interest. DCUM as a whole has a lot to interest non-parents. A teacher, in particular, might find the schools forums of interest. I also think it is obvious that molestation of children is an issue of concern even to non-parents.

I am by no means criticizing the person that reported the poster. As I said, I appreciate drawing my attention to such cases. I have no other way to show that I acted on the report and came to the conclusion that nothing is amiss.

Well, it was fun while it lasted but I am finally getting off of the Cain train. I am glad that I listened to that little voice in my gut saying don't send any money to his campaign. Too many misteps, too many lame and weak responses to the increasingly concrete allegations and too little credibility in general regarding foreign affairs, etc. Republicans need someone better than this.

To paraphrase Rummy, you go into elections with the candidates you have, not the candidates you want. As a liberal, I have to say that I feel for you guys. Your primary is one giant SNL skit.
If you are interested in fairly light reading, try books by George Pelecanos. Sometimes scenes in his novels take place right in my neighborhood. I also really like Gore Vidal's "Washington, DC".
Well, there's two hours of my life (at least it seemed that long) that I will never get back. For the record, at least one activity that was described as "helicopter parenting" is something that both my wife and I do with one of our children. I won't bother explaining, but I would happily fly away rather than do it if I actually had a propeller. The only conclusion with which I came away from that thread is that special needs parents rock. Seriously, as if they didn't already have enough challenges they have to put up with unwarranted attacks on DCUM. What's more, most of them do it with pretty good humor. I think that thread is either getting back on track or dying. One or the other. I'll keep an eye on it, however.

I agree with this completely. That's why I have stepped up my involvement in controlling threads (against my own better judgement, I might add). That thread is 12 pages long and will take me a bit to get through it. I tried just reading the last page and was really lost. What is that message about the trust fund cousin all about?

Anyway, it's probably too late to save that thread. But, I'll take a look and figure out something.
This analysis is from the Tax Policy Center:

The Tax Policy Center is a joint venture of the Brookings Institute and the Urban Institute. So, slightly left of center. But, I believe this analysis was cited by several of Cain's opponents during the "Western" debate on CNN.

Kim doesn't officially leave until December. There has been no permanent selection yet.

I reported this and will continue to report things that seem "off" to me. I guess you can see the poster and cross-ref with other posts he / she has made in the past and make our own determination as to whether or not they appear to be trolling. But this post, and a few others in the past, seem to be posts that either say something just a little bit off or they encourage others to do the same, then we get into the situation where parents (or whoever) are posting stories about kids masturbating, etc. It seems prurient to me, and I am FAR from a prude, but it's making my creep sensors go off.

I'll continue to report what I think seems gross, and appreciate that you have more info and the ultimate say. Sorry if it's ridiculous Jeff - think you do a great job on this website but don't agree here.

You misunderstood. I want you to report posts that you think might not be real. I just don't want people derailing threads by posting responses in the thread itself saying the OP is a troll. I appreciate your making the effort to report the post.

Anonymous wrote:Ok, fake post.

little girls vagina throbs, little girl peeing on the side of the road, boy sucks another boys wee-wee. This site is getting worse and worse. Too disturbing.

Just for the record, there is nothing to indicate that this post is fake. The post about the little girl peeing on the side of the road is from a repeat poster who is clearly a pervert. There was nothing to indicate the third post that you reference was fake.

If people believe that threads are not truthful, I wish that they would simply move on to another thread. If you seriously believe that the thread has been posted by a pervert, then -- by all means -- report the thread. But, the continual disruption of threads by claims that the original poster is a troll is getting ridiculous.
The Department of Recreation is soliciting for a rock band instructor for the Chevy Chase Rec. Center. So, perhaps that have, or will have, a program that might work for you there.
The best part of this is that the OP sock puppeted a response to herself. Can you add "I won't sock puppet" to the pledge?
Anonymous wrote:Did the fact that the computer was left in sleep mode make the gmail account more vulnerable to attack? Since the article starts out with this scenario, I assumed there was a connection, but didn't see any later discussion confirming it.

No, I don't think leaving the computer in sleep mode had nothing to do with it. I believe it was only mentioned to provide context as to how the hack was discovered.

Read what happened when James Fallows' wife's Gmail account got hacked. Most of the article would apply to Yahoo as well.

It is in Greece's interest to remain in the Euro Zone, but only in the right circumstances. The Greeks can threaten to default in order to get the best terms possible until someone calls their bluff. At that point, the Greeks need to decide if they are bluffing or not. I don't think Germany, or to a lesser extent France, will allow Greece to default. Instead, they will concede to Greece's demands.

Oops.

The oops referred to "Instead, they [the EU] will concede to Greece's demands." It took about 15 hours from the time of this post for the EU to call the Greek bluff. Of course, all that can change in the next hour, so who knows?

I do think it's somewhat misguided to think that Greece holds the whip in this situation.

Greece has been suffering and will continue to suffer regardless. It is in a position to decide just how much additional suffering it will accept before it begins making others suffer as well. To that extend, they hold the plurality of the whip.

The European leaders, unlike our President, understand that you don't open negotiations on the other side of the table. Rather, you start with your hardest line and negotiate from there. As I said, let's wait until we see what deal is worked out.
Anonymous wrote:even if the haircut is 33%, it is still a huge default. That ship has sailed, they are just trying to contain it to Greece so the interest rates for Italy and Spain do not go through the roof.

No, it's not a default. Defaults don't happen with the banks' consent.
