During tonight's debate Wolf Blitzer asked Romney about a commercial claiming that Newt Gingrich had called Spanish the language of the ghetto. Romney said he hadn't seen the commercial and that there are a lot of people out there making commercials. Blitzer came back and said his staff had reviewed the commercial and it was from the Romney campaign and had Mitt saying that he approved the message at the end of it. I couldn't help thinking of this Austin Powers scene:

Deep breath and count to 10 people. Everyone here has good intentions. Don't let an interesting conversation get spoiled by over-sensitivity.

This is technically infeasible. Though I do agree that many of our trouble-makers are long distance visitors. I've blocked two such posters in the past 24 hours.

Can you provide a solid source for this allegation? In her book Kathleen Willey suggests that Hillary Clinton (not Bill) had two of Willey's cats killed. However, there is no evidence that either cat was actually killed. One simply disappeared, the other turned up dead under Willey's porch. Ask any cat expert and he will tell you that it is not unusual for outdoors cats to disappear or turn up dead. Also, Willey has contradicted her own book and told an entirely different story about a cat being hurt rather than killed.

THE FEDERAL GOVERMENT TAKES 30% of the profit (stockholders income) before any of it is given to the stockholders. THEN THEY TAX IT AGAIN at 15%. an effective 40% tax rate. people are so stupid.

As you amply demonstrate. In the US, there is a nominal corporate tax rate topping out at 35%. However, corporations are provided a slew of tax deductions which result in that rate almost never being paid. See this article:

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/03/business/economy/03rates.html

"A Government Accountability Office study released in 2008 found that 55 percent of United States companies paid no federal income taxes during at least one year in a seven-year period it studied."

So, the "double taxation" you describe mostly exists only in theory.

Moreover, and this is really the most important aspect of Romney's taxes, his income is not primarily from dividends. Rather, it is from "carried interest". What this means is that Romney took someone else's money and earned a profit by using it to buy and sell companies. That profit was never a part of any corporations's profit line and, hence, was never taxed. So, there is not even a theoretical argument that the income was double taxed.
I think that it is likely that you are giving DCPS too much credit in suggesting that there is a realistic long term plan at all. I suspect that rather than a long term strategy, DCPS is implementing short term tactics aimed at putting out today's fire.

At one time, improvement of the schools was supposed to be the carrot that attracted families to the city (or motivated those already here to stay). You are suggesting that this relationship is reversed and new and current families will drive school improvement. The flaw in this theory is -- as the previous poster suggests -- the existence of Charter Schools. The new and existing families are more likely to enter Charter lotteries than be agents of change in their local DCPS (with some notable exceptions).

As the number of successful charters increases, I think the poorly performing schools will only get worse as any motivated parents send their kids elsewhere. These schools will likely be closed before too long. Someone else in these forums has predicted that DCPS will shrink to Wards 2 and 3 and a few other outposts. Charters will serve the rest. I think that may be a correct prediction.
Now, dcpublicschools tweets that there was simply an issue with a fluorescent light ballast. The school day as well as all after school programs will continue as scheduled.

So, I guess this entire thread should be ignored.
Okay, last update on this:

"Units cleared building of any hazards, no pt. transports, incident under control".

I am following IAFF36 on Twitter. They reported "multiple pts experiencing diff. breathing, and watering eyes" but then followed up with "EMS 6 reporting patients asymptomatic canceling the mass casualty task force." I'm not sure if that means the entire event was a false alarm or only that it was not as large as originally believed.
Several people exposed to unknown substance.
This is definitely true of photographers. It is pretty common for them to search for threads asking for photographer recommendations and then post to every single one (even if it is very old). There is one poster who got angry with one of my posts, called me names and urged people to stop using DCUM, but still comes to post recommendations for her studio periodically. I remove any of these posts that I identify.

They could start by getting rid of their cable service, xbox, and iPhones. Also cut back on eating out

Exactly. These poor idiots are making bad choices. If they would just cut back on all the things they don't need, they could easily afford higher taxes.

The Mitt Romneys of this world should not have to pay one penny more in taxes for as long as a single poor family has cable tv. That is simple justice.
The original poster asked that the thread be removed because it had been completely hijacked and the issue about which she had posted was not being addressed.
