Hi there. Geneva Day School, which just won Best of Bethesda' Magazine 2012 Award, will create a first grade for the Fall of 2012 if they get enough kids signed up this week. It is an amazing academic and social environment. My daughter is in their newly expanded Kindergarten and thriving -- and has truly developed a genuine love of learning.

Unfortunately there hasn't been advertising for the first grade and discussions began only at Thanksgiving time.

If your public school will be undergoing renovations next year or if you really cherish small class size for this key learning age and don't have it where you are for next Fall, please contact Amanda at 301-340-7704 to ask questions or take a tour.

Here is our school's website: http://genevadayschool.org

Geneva is so special and the teachers there are the ones my kids will remember forever. If you're interested in K or 1st (especially first! , please do look into it ASAP! Kindergarten at Geneva has been fabulous - and having a first grade would be a lasting win for the kids and the community.

Comments? Questions?

Thanks!
Can anyone share the pros and cons of Bradley Hills?

We'd be joining once you're in the Radnor holding school and I'd love any thoughts, feedback, commendations and concerns you have about the school on any front.

Thank you so much for your comments!

Can anyone share some insight into the class sizes of first grade at Bethesda Elementary... and what the pros and cons are of the school? We are looking to place our current Kindergartner for the Fall. Any comments, feedback, insights greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!!
You quoted me below and I assure you I am a real life parent of two thriving kids in Bethesda and we adore Dr. Barkin. I am not related to her in any way. I do not work for her. I actually run a business that deals with human resources and very best practices in all areas.

Perhaps your experience was in part colored by a feeling of defensiveness by you and your wife for not having agreed to vaccinations earlier, and perhaps Dr. Barkin was trying to emphasize to you how imperative they are, especially given the deaths in California and across the country for children whose parents insisted that their kids not have those protections.

I don't know what your experience nor if you are the same person maligning her in the posts about not taking credit cards for co-payments and the other odd statements below, but it is patently false that anyone at the office would keep you from being with your kid for any procedure or to be weighed.

Perhaps you would be better off in an office or public clinic that treats patients like a number and cares only about spending less than an allotted five minutes with each patient rather than giving you very special attention and making sure that there are no underlying issues with your kids. For us, that would not be an option.

If you want very detailed care -- and someone who genuinely cares about your whole family and that your children are not just "okay for the moment" but instead that they are thriving, then you should definitely make a consult with Dr. B.

If you still doubt my genuineness, you could post your email address or phone number here and I will contact you personally.

Sincerely,
A Mom who is indebted for the care of Dr. Barkin for the past five years.
Wow, how sad to make such an unfair generalization and comment about one of the most amazing physicians of all time - from here to Mass General, truly, it is very rare to find a physician as wise; current on latest studies, findings, treatments, and pediatric care. She also keeps her bills lower for her patients so she can treat everyone -- so to judge her by the fact that she prefers not to take credit cards (which the office will certainly do for bills over $100) is a real shame. Also, her office submits to accepts insurance for you. So to not take credit cards on a $15 or lower copay seems very harsh of that poster and I wonder what is really the genesis behind it.

I come from a long line of physicians who work round the clock taking calls from patients at all hours, not because they have to -- but because the genuinely care about their patients. Dr. Barkin comes from the same school and our community is so incredibly lucky to have her.

Every friend whom I have referred has LOVED Dr. Barkin and referred their friends and family too.

Imagination Stage’s Aquarium is back…great for ages 1-5.

July 9 - 31 (Saturdays and Sundays at 10:30 and 11:45)

For July ONLY, the incredibly popular Aquarium has returned -- yay! We went twice in January and February when they last ran this fantastic program and both my five and two year old loved it. Honestly, I did too.

Here's a glimpse: driven by the participation of the audience and interaction with the cast, the show is never the same twice. Whether their first visit or third, young audiences will love Aquarium! With gentle music, beautiful puppets and props, the actors lead children and caregivers to an underwater world, a grassy patch and to a garden where lemons create the sun in a let's pretend sky. Along the way, every child (and some of the grown ups, too) will have a chance to get in the act. Enjoyed by ages 1 to 5 years. These shows truly fill quickly, so get your tickets today if you haven't already. It's really a treat, and if you haven't been to www.imaginationstage.org before, make a half day of it: there's an adorable "open cafe" to get kid friendly, healthy and adult-palate'd breakfasts (including cappucinnos) and lunches. There's also a performance of Wind and the Willows if you wanted to do a 10:30 Aquarium interactive adventure; have a bite; get the wiggles out; and then see the 1pm theatre production.

The 11:45 showing is awesome if you want to not have to rush with your troupe and get a bite afterwards. Parking is even free in the easily accessible and comfortable lot with a sun light elevator just a hop away on the same block.

For Aquarium - which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND and you will love:
Tickets run $10 per person; $5 lap seat for children under 12 months.

The Box Office is also super helpful and friendly: 301-280-1660 or www.imaginationstage.org.
Does anyone have experience with both the full day and part day preschools at Ohr Kodesh? How do they compare? I sense that the programming is very different and I'd love input from moms.

Also, I noticed some comparisons to the Bindeman Center. If anyone has further thoughts on how the Ohr programs compare for both summer and full year programming I'd be grateful.

Thank you!
