I think you can judge how many are shopping around based on how many showed up for an id session. Did you get an offer?

I know Herndon was offering some RL players the opportunity to PT play/practice with VDA, which GFR and Valor couldn’t match. Loudoun pulls players from Western Fairfax, so they probably want to limit Herndon and VDA as much as possible. I don’t think there is a lot of love between those two (Loudoun and VDA).

Ultimately, though, all of these partnerships are about protecting the salaries of a handful of directors and do zero to improve player development.

ECNL would be better with a pro/rel system than this mega merger BS. The 07 boys GFR team could play in ECNL today if there was promotion. How many lifelong Loudoun players will get cut to make room on a combined team ?

The best Loudoun players leave for Arlington or Alexandria. The boys are continuing to lose players.

Oh my- end of the world!!!

Theres a massive ref shortage.

Probably due to people like you.

bethesda well el-cheapo. they had no field marshals to input the scores, they didn't use the new QR code system that other tournaments use and they didn't incentivize the refs to come out. They didn't care that they only had two refs per game. So when you pay $1500 for a tournament, you would expect them to have 3 refs.

2005/2004:

Loudon: Dave Bucciero
Union: Nadir Moumen
BRAVE: Tyler Mishalow

1. Clyde Watson
-Unquestioned reputation in the area, but is retiring. Basically built Mclean's girls program with his own hands over the last 20 years.

2. Nadir Moumen / Mikey Welsh
-Not the most warm and fuzzy personalities but have an established track record of many years of high performing teams, even if your DD hates playing for them. Even if your DD dislikes their personality and coaching style, she will still play for them because of the light at the end of the tunnel.

Bobby Puppione and Christian Czommer from FCV also make an appearance here because of the track record with their teams. Even if your DD dislikes their personality and coaching style, she will still play for them because of the light at the end of the tunnel.

3. Michel Vanderhart / Gene Mishalow / Rae Ann Taylor
-Coaching veterans in the area who have been grinding it out for 20+ years and have a ton of experience but not the benefit of coaching for a club with reputationally has pulled in the best girls talent in the area (Mclean / FCV typically)
Some people have mixed feelings about these coaches (love/hate relationship) but undeniably they are veteran coaches in the area.

4. Phil Leversedge / Dave Bucciero / Brent Leiba
-A group of very smart coaches who can really coach. Dave used to be the women's coach at AU, Phil and Brent are extremely brainy and capable, experienced coaches who have a lot of experience in the game and are respected.

George Hales makes an appearance here, not sure if he is still coaching with Metro United or not but I'd put him here.

5. Michelle Alioto / Hayhtam Mansur / Tyler Mishalow / Matt Lee
-All very capable coaches who have coached in the area for a while and probably have cabinets full of trophies for state cups, tournament trophies, and ODP accolades.

6. Joseph Nemzer / Scott Sinclar / Declan Cole
Experienced in coaching at college levels but by their bios it looks like this is their first year or two coaching youth players, which is completely different. BRYC experimented with this method the last few years by bringing former college coaches in to coach some age groups and it was a disaster. These coaches are fine for a U18/U19 team that is in its last year already. A lack of experience coaching youth players may be covered over by being handed a strong age group to begin with.

7. Lindsey Ottavio / Molly Menchel / Nick Surkamp / Mackenzie Wright
-Experienced in soccer as former players but haven't established themselves in the area or a coaching reputation / track record yet on the girls side. I'm sure they are all good coaches, but they are being compared to the list above so they fall at #7.

8. Alex Silver
-Do your own research

Mostly male coaches. Not surprising. Did anyone read the WaPo article? https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/11/18/ecnl-girls-soccer-male-coaches/

After 30 minutes at the dealership, I got a quote for $2400, and they said it had to be done immediately or risk damaging the engine. I told them I need to think about it and let them know later in the day. One of my work colleagues's son is a mechanic specialized in Toyota, and he checked the car. Within 15 minutes, he told me that the car needed new transmission oil and only cost me $50, including service. I paid him $50 and $200 in tip. The car is running fine after the transmission oil change. What a ripoff from the car dealer service.

Dealer was probably quoting a new transmission & installation.

Let us know if the simple fix works.

Used car dealers used to have quick, cheap fixes for transmission problems tat were only temporary masks of the real issue. (Used to put sawdust in bad transmissions to disguise the problem.)

Hopefully, it was just a simple issue.

Where are you taking your car to?

That said, this house specifically has a weird layout and there is nothing that really jumps out about it. I think you can find more appealing houses in the same cluster for a similar price.

Considering interest rates are high, it's expensive.
Size5Balls wrote:My first response would be why the heck would you have committed to a VA team when your heart is in MD? You couldn't make "any" practices or games? Really, any? You didn't hold up your part of the bargain, so pay up and try to persuade your club (that you really didn't support) to help you get your son somewhere that he can play.

Heart? I think they should have done more homework on on what they are buying into, but i'm not sure it's "heart." I agree with others, you should be able to get released since you paid the years fee. Going to an EDP team in Maryland should be the easiest.
runrmom wrote:Good point. We live in Rockville. And part of the issue with FCGB is getting to the Soccerplex for practice at rush hour, which can take 45 minutes…

unfortunately there aren't many options. As you get older, you will find most kids practice until 9 p.m. you can try MSI Classic teams.
goaliemomnova wrote:In the Alex/Arlington area, what do people use to supplement training when the fall season ends before the spring season begins? Not looking for futsal as prefer to use that as game situations on the weekends. is there training that can speed up play on the ball that isn't futsal for the winter?

That's what futsal does, especially in games. You need to make quick decisions because there's less space. I don't think any practice or training can make your kid play the ball faster unless they practice at the pace they play.

This is an EDP thread. Start a new one if you want to discuss MLS.
dcu13 wrote:Some of the brackets don't make sense. Just looking at the teams in son's age group I see:

- 2 teams that were a division below us are now a division above us. And we actually moved up 2 divisions, so those 2 teams moved up 4(!) divisions.
- A team who beat home and away in the spring are now in a division above us.
- A team that finished 1st in Premier 4 are now in Premier 6.

Just a few examples I noticed, I'm sure there are a ton more.

EDP changed the structure of the divisions and removed some of the lower "championship" divisions. For the high school ages they separated MD and VA teams. I guess we'll see after the fall if they made them competitive or not.
PapaCoach wrote:Thanks! Appreciate it. I couldn't find it from the main EDP site. I remember seeing it in the spring and last fall.

LOL on everyone being Premier. I saw a basketball camp called "Kids Elite Premier" and I just laughed...

Well if they do poorly then they will be moved down, unlike other leagues where you are in because of your club.

Bethesda Soccer - 4th level team (of 6) - practice 2 days a week

Potomac Soccer - 2nd level team (of 5) - will practice 3x a week

All 3 organizations offered both boys a spot on the same team.

I don't know a ton about soccer and youth development within the sport, but I want to be supportive to my twins who love it! They are fairly athletic boys who like doing lots of sports currently - baseball, flag football, summer swim etc. I don't want them to get hurt or burn out after all they are only turning 8 in a couple of weeks. I would like to put them somewhere where they will learn the most, improve, and have fun with teammates. They are very focused and hard working kids so far but I want them to be challenged but not over faced with little playing time. We are not parents who think our kids will become pro soccer players but it would be awesome if they could play varsity in high school (Whitman)! I realize that's far ahead, but I want to make sure I'm having them take the best path.

I would like advice from others who are more knowledgeable about these clubs and boys' soccer in general. I will mention that they played better at the Potomac tryout than they did at Bethesda where I think they were intimidated by playing in a game with older kids as soon as they arrived. For what that's worth.

TIA!

Do the boys have any friends on the teams? Do you live near the DC border? If not, it may be tough getting to PPA practice. Since Bethesda is only two days a week, i would choose the other two options.
