Anonymous wrote:For the last 5 months we have been living locally with my husband's mother, in his childhood home.

This is partly because we are adding an addition to our home, but mostly because my MIL has pretty severe Alzheimers. My FIL was her care taker until last fall when he died of a massive heart attack. All options for care facilities are either full, under construction, or just too gross.

So, here we are providing care for her. I have cooked for her, picked her up when she falls drunk, taken over sooo many domestic duties, etc.

The end is in sight (July 31) but I can't hold my tongue anymore.

My SIL is in San Diego and has not done a single thing to assist in any of this. She has not visited, offered to instacart groceries, fly out for a week to give us a break. NOTHING. It is not for lack of time or money. She is 'retired' at 48 and her husband makes several million dollars a year and her kids are grown.

She is dead to me.

Do I let her know? Do I carry this to my grave?

I thought typing this all out would help me but it actually just made me more furious.

I don't understand your fury. She knows her brother is living with her mom for a limited time. It's brother's time to take care of mom. Why would she fly out to crowd the house further, or pay for your family's groceries while you're living with your MIL?

If she doesn't do anything for her mom after you're gone, then I guess you can be mad at her, but it sounds like you should be mad at your husband for making you his mom's caretaker while he's in the house, not your SIL who lives elsewhere for not saying thank you to you for doing your husband's job.

Do you have Asperger's? Your level of detachment is nuts.

This response makes no sense. Is this OP? Do you think that anyone who responds to a thread with less than fury is on the autism spectrum? Do you think your baseline level of unfettered rage is how the rest of society functions? It's not.

All throughout this thread, OP has been sock-puppeting and being exceptionally aggressive without identifying herself. Even if her story is real, I now have zero sympathy for her.

I am not OP and Jeff is more than welcome to confirm. I've read this entire thread and its very clear to me that there are two women sock puppeting in opposition to the OP. Why, who knows? But the idea that OP's anger at her sister for doing nothing while she cares for her abusive drunk mother is in anyway misplaced is... hilarious, simply put. OP is being used by her sister and a child can recognize this.

I hope the womne sock puppeting get dementia and they lay in their own piss.

You are actually the OP.
Our ad partner just informed me that they were able to track down the source of the redirects and have blocked it. Please let me know if you have this issue after this post.
I just received some screenshots which I have sent off to our ad partner. Hopefully that will help with a solution.

Has anyone using a Mac had this issue? Maybe that is why I am not getting it.
Could you please link to one of the post so I don't have to read the whole thread?
I guess because posters started a lot of threads. I don't know another way they could get there. i didn't realize that there were a lot, however. I'll go take a look.

While I love the car and driving it (so zippy compared to my previous minivan), the electronics are freaking annoying and I am sure it is the same throughout the line. For example, this week, my "back up camera was unavailable", my Spotify wouldn't play for 2 minutes, and my mirrors didn't tilt down down upon going into reverse. These are all problems that occur randomly, with no rhyme or reason. I have 1.5 years left on the lease, and although I like the Volvo brand, unclear I will get another one unless they hire some better software people.

There is a recall for the backup camera issue:

There may have been an over the air software update during the past few days.
Yes, I removed the thread.
I have not seen that ad. Can you send a screenshot and I can pass it along to our ad partner?
Anonymous wrote:Thanks for creating this thread. I am an BEV owner too, and I think there are a lot of misconceptions out there about them.

I have been afraid to take long distance trips. When you did some of your long drives, were they through the South? For example, trying to make it to Myrtle Beach, there is only one Tesla station there, and my car just became compatible with an adapter. However, where I need to go is about 20 mins south of that station. What have you done when embarking in those types of situations?

My trips have been to the midwest. You might want to check PlugShare (you can use either the app or website). I just checked and saw several chargers near Myrtle Beach. Most are at car dealerships, but those chargers are often open to the public.

But more generally in regard to your question, check for hotel charging. Two of the trips we've made have been to rural southern Illinois where chargers are few and far between. There was a DC fast charger one hour north of where we were staying and another one hour south. But, the hotel had three level 2 chargers that were free. So we simply plugged in there for the night.

There has been tremendous growth in chargers and new ones are being installed every day. Don't be surprised if the situation now is considerably different than it was just a year ago. If you are truly in a desperate situation, some alternatives are to bring your level 1 charger if you have one and see if you can plug it into a wall socket somewhere. While that is very slow charging, if you leave the car overnight you can add a little bit of range. Also, look for a place where they park RVs. There are often 240v sockets that you can use with your level 2 charger (again, if you have one).

Of note, I use chrome on my phone and haven't had this issue at all.

Do you only use your laptop in one location? It could be that only certain ISPs are being targeted. If you are in an adventurist mood, you might trying using your phone as a personal hotspot and see if you get the redirects then.
Anonymous wrote:What I meant to ask with the mpg question is how much do you end up paying for a full charge and how many miles can you go on
a full charge on average. For comparison, a gas car can go about 300 miles on a “full charge” at a cost of about $30. So, $0.1 per
mile.

The savings for EV charging is with home charging where you might pay $0.18 per kWh. We have solar so that cost is reduced to nearly nothing. But let's say that you fully charged our BMW i4 paying $0.18 per kWh. The battery is roughly 67 kWh, so that costs $12.06. The range would be about 240 miles, mean $0.05 per mile.

This changes radically if you rely on public fast charging which can cost $0.40 - $0.60 or even more per kWh. Our i4 came with two years of free charging on the Electrify America network so when we stick to that network, we pay nothing. But if we use other stations, we are paying about the same as gas.

Yes, but there are several factors involved. Insurance for all cars has increased lately. The new EVs are more expensive then our previous cars and even the used EVs were more expensive than the 16 and 18 year old cars that they replaced. More expensive cars cost more to insure with all else being equal. Also, having two young adult males added to the mix didn't do us any favors for insurance costs. Anecdotally I hear that EVs cost more to ensure than gas cars. That seems especially true in the case of Teslas. But, I can't say for certain about other EVs. Our personal situation has too many other variable to determine how much of the increase was solely due to the cars being EVs.
There are quite a few posters in that thread, though some are posting repeatedly. I see a handful that have posted around 10 times or so. But there are still a large number of different posters.
