Would you name your son Ariel?

Having a very hard time thinking of a name for our son. I really love Ariel but have some concerns that it's considered too feminine in the US and that he may get teased for it. Not to mention the everlasting association with The Little Mermaid.

I’ve had two Jewish male students with that name.

I’ve had more male students named Ariel than female (and the female students were often spelled Arielle.) I assume you aren’t pronouncing it like the Little Mermaid. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Little Mermaid was popular with the 80s baby crowd. Not sure how many kids today have seen it even once.

Oops, yes, should have put that in! Ah-riel (R-E-L) rather than Air-iel.

Ariel the mermaid? NO

No. I know it’s a male name but that won’t prevent the reaction it’ll get from the many people who do not know that.

Hard no. It is hard for all the older men with now feminine names. Use Ari instead or any other male name, not Ariel.

Are you joking? Ariel the mermaid is still a big deal! Just visit any Disney store and you’ll see…
