How many kids have seen the little mermaid? Umm most little girls. I have 2 under 5 and they know the movie by heart.
I don’t think he’d get teased. Ariel Sharon is a name most Americans know. I’ve known quite a few Aris whose name was really Ariel. |
Agreed. I think it’s fine to use Ariel if you use Ari as a nickname. At school and soccer he can be Ari and at Hebrew School he can go by Ariel. Easy. |
| Ari or Arie is not just a nn or go with Daniel, Gabriel |
+1 Ariel, nn Ari. |
| OP I love this name too and love that you are giving it lots of thought. To me it is a deeply masculine name - an angel who is a lion! But I understand the reservations. I hope the mermaid association is gone too, and you can use it! |
| If I saw it on a resume I’d probably think it was a female name at first glance and I think most Americans who didn’t live in an area with a large Jewish population probably would as well. |
| I only know males named Ari. |
| Yes.. I know more guys than girls named Ariel (R-E-EL). |
| I think many Americans might assume female at first glance seeing it written but I doubt it’ll get much reaction when they realize they had the wrong gender. I’ve known more male Ariels than female. |
| I like it, but if worried about the Little Mermaid, how about Nuriel nn Nuri? |
Yes, that would be your frame of reference. Sigh... |
| I had a dentist named Ariel and he was really hot. |
| Beautiful name for a boy/man. I love Ariel for your son, OP. |
| Ariel is an Angel in the bible. It means Lion of God. |

I know more boys than girls with the name.
