How many kids have seen the little mermaid? Umm most little girls. I have 2 under 5 and they know the movie by heart.
I don’t think he’d get teased. Ariel Sharon is a name most Americans know. I’ve known quite a few Aris whose name was really Ariel. |

Agreed. I think it’s fine to use Ariel if you use Ari as a nickname. At school and soccer he can be Ari and at Hebrew School he can go by Ariel. Easy. |

| OP I love this name too and love that you are giving it lots of thought. To me it is a deeply masculine name - an angel who is a lion! But I understand the reservations. I hope the mermaid association is gone too, and you can use it! |

| If I saw it on a resume I’d probably think it was a female name at first glance and I think most Americans who didn’t live in an area with a large Jewish population probably would as well. |

| I think many Americans might assume female at first glance seeing it written but I doubt it’ll get much reaction when they realize they had the wrong gender. I’ve known more male Ariels than female. |
