Hell to the no. Ariel is a mermaid.

I know lots a d lots of Jews and didn’t know this was a man’s name. Are all the Ari’s I’ve known actually Ariels? I feel so dumb not knowing that.
But the short answer is I would think it was a girl’s name—but there’s nothing wrong with that.

Actually there is. Why would you handicap a boy from birth by giving him what is perceived to be a girls name?

OP I think your instincts are correct

I think it’s a horrible name for a boy

It’s a great name. I’d definitely go for it.

Yes, it’s a nice name. Don’t think kids these days are so much into the mermaid.

I know a guy named Ariel. He absolutely hated it and always just called himself Ari. Don’t do it.

No.

You could name him ARI.

I personally would not. I think having a boy named Ariel, even if it is a more common masculine name and other cultures, will be very very very difficult if you live in America.

What other names do you like? Maybe we could help with some suggestions?

If similar to Ariel in sound, would you consider: Arthur, Aaron, Archie, Adrian, Alden or Anders?
