Why do women hate women who marry well?

Look at all the hates Meghan Markle gets due to jealousy. Why can’t we let women be?

Speak for yourself. I’m happy with my husband and have a different notion of what “marrying well” means than others including you do.

Nobody hates her for "marrying well," if that were the case people would be hating on Kate even more because afterall, Kate married better.

It’s a very small percentage of women. I don’t know anyone who cares at all about Meghan Markle. Like if I see them I think “cute couple” then move on and never think about them again, because I have my own life to worry about.

Remember DCUM isn’t representative of real life. Most of the people I know don’t even know who Hilaria Baldwin or Priyanka Chopra are, let alone care what they do.

I dislike women who are smug about who they married, especially if their smugness is related to their husband's income or family money. I don't dislike them for "marrying well" -- I hope everyone who wants a partner finds a good one. I dislike them for being obnoxious about how their marriage offers them more economic power than other women they know. It's a fundamentally misogynist attitude and is just gross.

There was a woman in another thread recently who explained that her she didn't have to work and was able to travel extensively with her husband when he traveled on business, and how that made another woman jealous. And then she said a bunch of snide stuff about how that woman was miserable in her job and was probably making her husband miserable too. It was just incredibly judgmental and smug. I can't stand women like that. If you are fortunate in who you married, be thankful for your good fortune. Acting smug makes you look so small and petty.

1. I think the Meghan Markle hate is motivated by a weird and toxic mix of things, including racism.

2. I certainly don't hate women who married well, but I do think it's foolish for a woman not to have her own money, whether from her family, her work, etc.

People don't hate on Meghan because she "married well." For the proof, contrast her with Kate, who is beloved. Meghan was independently successful and wealthy, whereas Kate has always been the opposite.

Huh? I don't know any women who have ever mentioned Markle. Seems like her marriages have had their share of challenges, but they seem in-house, not from jealous women.

Pp is incorrect its racism though. Meghan looks white and has only married white but she plays up her blackness when it suits her. She dominates Harry and has him at her beck and call.

Marrying well, if by that you mean marrying money, is nothing to be jealous of. I did, and I’m miserable. I would wish I had married someone who is more like my equal, partner, teammate.
