I tried cardio with a mask yesterday...it didn't go well

...so I pulled it under my chin. There was nobody with 100 yards (or more) of me. My gym is essentially empty these days, so I thought it would be fine. Nobody complained, so I am hopefully I can continue do this until they lift the mask mandate. I am vaccinated for what it's worth. I am seeing lots of people in the gym with masks worn improperly, so I was not the only one.

Don’t wear a mask while working out.

ok

I ran a half marathon masked. I think you can do a gym workout masked. And really 100 yards? How big is your gym?

The masks from Adidas work well during cardio.

But if you're vaccinated isn't the guidance only when you're close to people outside?

100 yards is a football field

Check the local guidelines if you haven't.

It is a huge cardio space and I was in the corner on equipment nobody else was using. Maybe it was closer to 50 yards, but still pretty far.

I find it hard, too, OP. The marathon runner is in better shape than me for sure, and that matters.

If you are vaccinated and nobody is anywhere near you, I see very little risk of pulling down the mask. Having said that, right now I would try to maximize outdoor cardio. I still go to a gym but do strength training. I still walk/bike/hike outside.

Honestly American gyms are cheap and lazy. Its past time they had plastic barriers put up between every machine. This should have been done this time last year.

No need for masks then.

In Montgomery you can take it off while exercising.

I have asthma, am 60 lbs overweight at almost age 50, just had surgery two weeks ago, and am exercising with a mask. Maybe you need a better mask?

Our gym got a significant fine for people not being masked. Someone reported it to the health department and they did a surprise visit.

It’s not that hard to work out with a mask. Practice breathing and figure out what works for you. For me, a 2-3 second inhalation through the nose and 2-3 sec exhalation through the mouth is best for me. If you’re struggling, slow your breathing down even more.

NP and genuinely asking: can you recommend a good mask?

You're probably not exercising very vigorously, though.

Yeah I get it OP. I've done more rounds of Cpr wearing an N95, mask, and face shield than I can remember. It's not easy to breathe doing really intense activities
