I tried cardio with a mask yesterday...it didn't go well

It's hot and humid. You really can't understand people not wanting to run outside?

Wow, and all your exercise makes you such a charming, balanced person. Not everyone has access to an outdoor pool. But you knew that, right?

No need for masks then.

Come on now, does anyone really believe those plastic walls will keep them safe? This might feel good but the air is the same behind and above. Every machine would have to be in it's own private booth for it to be safe.

I ran a half marathon masked. I think you can do a gym workout masked. And really 100 yards? How big is your gym?

First tell us your time.

Why are you running outside with a mask? You don’t get an award for suffering unnecessarily.

It’s not bad at 5am.

It depends what you want to do to work out. I'll go outside if I want to do a longer run and I walk plenty. But I also like using barbells for strength, or doing crossfit-style workouts where I may want to sprint 200 or 400 meters between using other weights or equipment. I do those things at the gym because it is best suited for those activities. I would love to have a home gym but do not have the space. So I suck it up and wear the required mask for my treadmill sprints.

Ironically, for most of the pandemic walking/running outdoors was the only time I did wear a mask when I worked out. I wasn't going to the gym before I was vaccinated, and so I'd either work out maskless at home or run outside masked. How quickly we forget the Maskless Jogger Hysterics of 2020.

You're probably not exercising very vigorously, though.

+1. I always pull my mask down because I cannot keep up with my breathing while pounding out stairs or running on a treadmill. In fact I changed gyms because the last one made me do this shit with a mask on, which just lead me to saunter on the equipment versus truly working out.
Requiring vaccinated people to wear masks during vigorous exercise is f'ing stupid. I hate Elrich with a fiery passion.

It's worse at 11am, but it's still pretty darn awful at 5am. The morning humidity is suffocating.

Thank you

I can't do heavy cardio masked either. The only time I didn't mind it too much was during the winter - and even then I would only pull it up when passing someone. It was primarily for keeping my face warm.

Hold up. I thought the latest mandate in MD (or was it MoCo?) said that you DON'T have to wear a mask while exercising.

Under Armor sports mask is awesome!

It's a matter of getting used to it.

I've been working (not from home) throughout the pandemic and wearing my mask all day, everyday. I started going back to exercise classes recently and even in my much more out of shape state, I am able to keep my mask on. I pull it down to wipe the sweat from my face every now and then, but quickly put it back in place.

My kid was at in person school this past year. Had to wear a mask the whole time, even during outdoor recess and PE. No complaints.

You need to change your mindset is all. It's not as easy as before but it's not unbearable or untolerable, it's different.

Im a huge mask proponent, but I can’t do a vigorous run with a mask. That’s why I stick to the outdoors when running. I can do Pilates and other exercise with a mask. If you can’t follow indoor masking guidelines for certain exercises, just take it outdoors. Lots if people are doing it.
