Settle this debate: PJs in hotel breakfast area

Anonymous
My husband think it’s perfectly fine for the kids/even for him to go to the hotel breakfast area in PJs. I think it’s rude and trashy, and insist that we all are showered and dressed before going down there. Most of the breakfasts don’t end until 10, and we’re usually up and ready by 8:30 at the latest, so what’s the difference to just wait a few minutes before being presentable. We don’t stay at super-nice places, but even just at a Hampton Inn, people are at least wearing…clothes, right?

I would maybe go down to get coffee to bring back to the room but not to sit and eat.

It’s a bit…tasteless. The hotel isn’t your house. When we are in public places with strangers, we wear actual clothes.

Under 8, fine. Over 8, less fine, but you don’t need to be showered and dressed, just wearing something that could plausibly be sweats, or athleisure, or t-shirt and shorts.

Ah, the typical uncouth American. Normal people wear clothes when they leave their hotel room.

100% trashy.

Does he fly in his PJs? Or go for a walk in the neighborhood in them?

I have sent that, too. Trashy.

It's a public sphere. Not your home.

I don't mind

Straight up actual PJs, I don’t think so. Unshowered in sweats and a t shirt, fine.

I don’t think it’s rude but I don’t do it or let my kids do it unless whatever we slept in can pass for real clothes.

You are right. However, he is in conformity with a shockingly large percentage of the population. I might cut very young kids some slack, but not DH unless he is sleeping in gym shorts and a T shirt. The breakfast area of a hotel is a public place; not your grandmother's kitchen.

I don't care what other people wear.

I'm there for a quick bite to eat before going out or hitting the road. Using up space in my brain to judge people over a hotel breakfast is not how I want to start my morning.

No way. Unless they’re young enough to wear footie pajamas it’s completely unacceptable in my book. If needed have one person go down (dressed) and bring food back to the room.

We always are fully showered and dressed before going to the breakfast area. I honestly can’t say that I’ve seen people in their PJs, unless maybe a toddler or a teenager.

Classless.

Not okay except for babies and toddlers.
