Democrats recently introduced a guaranteed income bill.

Anonymous
If passed, joint filers with incomes up to $150,000 per year will get $1,200 per adult and $600 per child for the next six years. For example, a family of two adults and two children would get $3,600 per month. That’s on top of the recently enacted rent forgiveness and mortgage forbearance programs and the proposal to forgive up to $100,000 in student loans ($50k per person) for joint households earning up to $250,000 per year.

How about we just extend unemployment?

If your goal is to give more people a minimum income, including people who work at low paying jobs, this will reach more people. If that’s not your goal, then make unemployment more beneficial than working low paying jobs. I guess it’s depends on what your goal is, and if you want to help people who work low paying jobs make ends meet without having to do something drastic like stay home and take advantage of the meager options available, because it pays better than minimum wage after childcare and work/commute related expenses.

My goal is to help the people that most need it - the ones without income or jobs in a pandemic. Not the family’s making up to $150K a year with just two kids in a already LCOL area.

So people with kids would get $900 per child on a monthly basis with this and the Child Tax credit?

This is BS.

I’m pretty leftist but I can’t see these ideas being good.

What could go wrong with making people MORE dependent on the government?

I can see what would happen down the line in 40 years or less....... these same people getting this "guaranteed income" are making enough money to get by, with the other government programs of course, and decide not to work. When they reach 65, they find that they are not eligible for Social Security because they have not worked long enough and paid enough in. And, they have not been able to build a decent 401K with their government hand outs.

So, in 40 years or so....... we will have a NEW government program to help these same people through retirement.

And that new program will involve taking retirement funds via taxes from those who worked hard and responsibly saved for forty years.

It was introduced by the Squad who can’t get any laws passed - not to worry it’s going nowhere.

They need to focus on actionable things like Medicare For All or expanded ACA.

Say hello to hyperinflation, a debased currency, and removal of the dollar as the primary reserve currency. We will be worse than Greece.

Such stupidity.
So we’re going to pump more cash into the economy while stifling productivity. Where do they think that will lead?
Pretty soon we will have $50 loaves of bread and will be no better off than we were before. And we’ll be worse off because some people who might otherwise have been increasing their skill sets were no longer motivated to do so, so an essential brain drain. Heading towards Idiocracy.

The pandemic has been here for a year and a half.
There are 9 million vacant jobs.
Instead of waiting for your elevator button pushing job to come back, time to look for a new job.

The unvaccinated is what is stifling the economy. Let's not lose focus here.

That’s rich coming from a person pushing an extra $3,600/mo for families already making $150,000.

The healthcare is really what’s important. We desperately need that. And no one should have to be tied to their parents until 26.
