WH Counsel advised the illegality of the plan, and the WH went with it anyhow.
Uh oh. |
"Tim Giebels, the lead special agent in charge of the vice president's protective detail, twice asked Pence to evacuate the Capitol, but Pence refused," the book says. ... Pence told Giebels: 'I'm not getting in the car, Tim.' "I trust you, Tim, but you're not driving the car. If I get in that vehicle, you guys are taking off. I'm not getting in the car," he said. The Pences went to a secure underground area to wait out the riot. At the White House, senior official Keith Kellogg reportedly discussed Pence with Tony Ornato[b], who "oversaw Secret Service movements." Ornato told Kellogg that Pence's security detail was planning to move him to Joint Base Andrews but Kellogg told Ornato to leave Pence where he was because Pence was determined to stay and finish the job." https://www.newsweek.com/mike-pence-refused-car-secret-service-capitol-riot-book-1610326 "The Secret Service also took the unprecedented step of allowing the former detail leader to temporarily leave his job to become a White House political adviser. Anthony Ornato was hired as White House deputy chief of staff earlier this year. Not really. But I found a tweet that basically had a short blurb in which it’s made clear that yeah, the USSS (or elements within, at least) was in on the coup. |
Yeah, it didn’t really connect the dots enough for me, either. |
This thread of Meadow's texts show how much BS the GOP inflicted on this country since election day. they all knew it.

Media is still in the tank for the GOP. |
They expected federal law enforcement to side with Trump. It really was a fascist coup attempt. |
Ok - explainer - I didn't want to repost the entirety of the two articles. Ornato is a USSS officer that was working on the detail in the Trump White House. During the Trump administration he took leave from the USSS to go work for the Administration directly as Deputy Chief of Staff - which raised eyebrows at the time since the Secret Service shouldn't be partisan. Ornato coordinated the photo op of Trump with the Bible in Lafayette Square after protestors were forcibly removed. Between that time and January 6th, Ornato went back into the USSS and was in charge of Secret Service movements on January 6th. So Ornato had the authority to direct Pence's detail to an alternate location, which is why Pence telling the one agent, "I trust you, but you aren't driving that car" is at least something that should be looked into. I think it's pretty well accepted that the USSS is very conservative as far as risk goes, so maybe whisking Pence to Andrews was just their MO. But at the end of the day Pence wasn't willing to get into a car driven by the USSS that was directed by Trump's former Deputy Chief of Staff on January 6th. |
That is so disturbing. |
