They’re lying to us. Biden is selfish and a liar. He knew he was in declining health last year but still decided to run. He thinks he deserves two terms and has a chip on his shoulder about how the Dem Party has underestimated and undermined him from the beginning . He will make sure the whole system crashes with him. There’s no way they’ll get him to step down unless they write a very very hefty check payable to Joe and Jill Biden

So true. What a narcissist Joe is. Jill, as well.

I’m so sick of “narcissist” being used to describe everyone who does anything a person doesn’t like. Biden is the President and wants to run. He’s said that delegates should vote their conscience. If some rich people have decided at the last minute that they don’t want him to run, that’s too bad. They’re not trying to force him out for the sake of the country, btw.

+1
They’re trying to force him out because he’s actually talking about changing how wealthy people are taxed. And they hate that.

No, it's for the stated reason. If you had watched the debate, you would understand. But since you didn't, you're posting this nonsense.

Why does the debate matter, but not a dozen or so perfectly sharp appearances the same week?

He literally just called his Secretary of Defense “the Black man” because he can’t recall his name.

Just a few days ago.

The guy who has been hospitalized multiple times? I don't remember his name either.

You don’t need to. He’s not your worker but forgetting the name and calling him the black guy on BET no less is hilarious. Biden is already losing many black voters

And you think Trump remembers everyone’s name? And would refer to them in a non offensive manner if he forgot?

Trump didn’t refuse a cognitive test. Biden did .

Trump is 4 years younger than Biden which is a huge difference when you’re elderly . In 4 more years, Trump will be the age as current Joe Biden so who knows what he will be like if he makes it to then? His brain reaction time and instincts were razor sharp enough to save himself last week so I think he’s fine cognitively but just his usual blowhard self which was there even when he was a younger man

Trump didn't have two brain aneurysms and two brain surgeries in his mid-forties either.

Trump is healthy . He isn’t the one who’s had COVID multiple times after six COVID boosters.

I am not sure why much is made of Trumps fatty diet . Sugar is clearly worse than fat if we go by Bidens daily ice cream. Maybe his team should his ice cream habit and his faculties will get stronger. I am not joking either. Some scientists are starting to call Alzheimer’s type 3 diabetes

Frankly, it’s disgusting that all these PACs and billionaire robber barons think they get to act like mob bosses and muscle a POTUS out of a campaign.

He has covid. Biden would never risk this being exposed as a lie, too little to gain from it.

How would it get exposed? I don’t think he’s super concerned.

Indeed. He has Parkinson’s but pretends no pretty effectively.

DP...
If your stated reason of "cognitive decline" or your imagined nonsense about "Joe's narcissism" or "Jill's making him do it" and whatever else were actually true then the wealthy donor class would be forcing Donald Trump out of the race. But that's not happening because he wants to cut their taxes. I think the PP actually does have a valid point.

Bernie is a perfect opposition politician. He'd be totally wasted in the White House

Also he's not a Democrat...

Regardless, he was going to win.

? No, really no. And I agree with a lot of his policies. You're going to get a lot wrong in life if you believe that Sanders was going to win that election.

Ok. I'm in blue flyover country and every single lefty in my family and social circle voted for him in 2020. In fact I can't recall seeing a sign or bumper sticker for any other D. Most of my neighbors just left up their Bernie signs rather than bother with getting a Biden Harris one. I'm a R so it doesn't matter to me but my friends were all disappointed to the point of tears that Biden got forced in.

I’m in the Minnesota burbs but near Minneapolis and all the Bernie people I knew went for Biden (and had signs, some of them). Forgive me but I think you’ve made up your anecdote. “To the point of tears.” Yeah, sure. People understand that to let the GOP get in office means the destruction of our country. “Good” Republicans certainly won’t do anything to stop the goose stepping.

Wow and social media is totally organic and bots and trolls don’t exist and certainly never sway messages.

I’m not participating in this revolt. I voted for Biden in the primary and I expect my vote to be honored. A switch at this point would be an attack on democracy.

You are really obsessed with posting here. Real Democrats understand that
1. Their options were limited in the primary thanks to Biden
2. Biden stepping down because of his health is not "an attack on democracy" don't be daft

I'm a new poster. I'm also an independent. Personally, I took find it maddening to be lectured on democracy by a party that is throwing out its own elections.

The notion that Biden's health changed dramatically between the primaries and the debate is unlikely.

The notion that the primaries were somehow not "real" because Biden was an incumbent is also not true. RFK tried to challenge Biden, and the Democratic Party sidelined him.

Totally agree.

Democrats have completely lost the argument “democracy is at stake” when they are in process of actively ousting their own elected leader.

Laugh it up, Republicans. None of you are going to make it into the super wealthy category that Biden wants to tax. By an old survey, many of you think you’re already there (now that is laugh out loud worthy) but you’re really just bootlicking. There’s an old quote by LBJ that is about you and the rest of your little wannabe billionaire friends: “If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.” You can sub in different groups for races, like immigrants, women, people with student loans forgiven…

Elon Musk is able to give Trump $45 million a month. A month. More money than ten thousand working poor would collectively see in their lifetimes and he can afford to spray it at Trump every month. That’s someone who has no skin in the game. That’s someone who doesn’t have to function in society - and we’re all paying their tab. I bet you’re one of the people who gets really, really angry about student loan forgiveness. Nevermind the fact that they’ve all paid back their principle and then some, you want everyone else to know you’re better than them and you’ll help keep the boot on their necks.

RFK is a spoiler candidate paid by Trump and the GOP. Why should the Democrats have let him run in their primary? Dean Phillips did. He got nowhere, and he’s an actual Democrat.

Clintons privately urge donors to keep giving to Biden as long as he remains presumptive nominee

CNN

Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have been privately encouraging donors in recent weeks to continue financially supporting President Joe Biden’s campaign, according to two sources familiar, in the aftermath of Biden’s disastrous debate performance that has sent the Democratic Party spiraling into chaos.

One of the sources said the Clintons are choosing to be “deferential to Biden’s decision.” However, the second source, who is familiar with the Clintons’ thinking and has spoken with the couple in recent days, insisted that it is more accurate to say they are “deferential to the process.”

According to this source, the Clintons have made clear in private conversations recently that it doesn’t matter what anybody says or thinks — unless Biden decides he will drop out of the 2024 race or the delegates vote for somebody else, he is the party’s presumptive nominee.

DP here.

It's true that Biden, who has been declining for a couple of years now, has had a precipitous decline since Spring 2024. It's more likely caused by a series of mini-strokes than Parkinson's or Alzheimer's disease, given what we know of his symptoms, although of course no one can definitely answer, not even his doctor. Why? Because these diseases are usually confirmed AFTER symptoms have become debilitating, unfortunately. There are ways of imaging the brain to look for the vascular injuries due to strokes and mini-strokes, but he probably didn't have that done (it would mean a visit to Walter Reed). Mini-strokes are not visible to the naked eye. It's not like you fall over and become paralyzed down one side of your face and need hospitalization. You may have a peculiar headache for a bit, but that's it - you're walking and talking throughout.

The comments about elections and democracy are just not grounded in reality. In a perfect world, sure, we'd have time for elections and primaries and voters would be consulted all the time. But in this world? No, it doesn't, and has never, worked like that. In any country. Due to inertia, no Democrat except the incumbent had a chance in the Dem primary. Biden should never have sought relection, that's for sure. So here Democrats are, in a mess of their own making, and Harris is the only candidate who has a glimmer of a chance of hoisting them out of this mess.
