In letter just sent out. Also here: https://dcpsreopenstrong.com/sy21-22/
Won't require the adults to vax, but they'll force little children to wear masks. Idiots. Maddening idiots. |
| You have got to be f***ing kidding me. Especially at the high school & middle level. FFS. |
|
I hate the new phrase "In Person Learning" I need "In Person Instruction".
In Person Learning could be my child in the classroom with a teacher simulcasting. |
This is a smart decision that will keep school buildings open for in person learning AND spare suffering. |
|
This is not new. DCPS announced that info last month as well, that masks would be required for all.
And especially since AAP just made that same recommendation this week, for all to be wearing masks in schools, not sure why there's any surprises here. |
|
But no vaccination requirement for anyone!?!
That’s insane. Schools will be closing again this year. Start planning. |
| How does that motivate 12+ to get vaccinated? |
|
Is anyone surprised? It's obvious this was going to happen. Public schools cannot require proof of vaccination, so they can't trust that adults or kids will be vaccinated and therefore all they can do is require masks. Private schools CAN require proof of vaccination, and have the luxury of not starting out with masks in their upper schools, although, they'll be forced to when cases surge in our area in the fall. They'll be able to buy a few months, that's all. |
Take that up with the AAP. GOLD STANDARD. EVERYONE IN A MASK. |
What? Why do you think they can't? |
Require proof of vax? I wish they could, but they're not even trying because apparently there's strong legal arguments that publicly-funded institutions should not mandate "experimental" vaccines that are still under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). Once they are fully approved, I really hope some school districts will require them, but they will still face strong oppositions from the "equity" crowd and "individual liberties" crowd... |
They won’t require them this year. They would have announced it already if the deadline was January (or whatever). Best you can hope for is next school year. |
| Outside too? FML. My unvaxxed kid is ok with masking indoors, but I would be super annoyed if my kid was vaccinated or was preschooler. |
Of course they can require proof of vaccination. We fill out vaccination forms every year. |
| My larger concern is that the only mitigation measure that is required is masks, while all the others are optional. How will this be handled in an overcrowded middle school situation when at least most 6th graders will not be vax eligible, and we know that none of these "recommended" mitigation measures are feasible? Will there be testing? Will there be opportunities for kids who test positive for covid or who are living with people positive with covid to learn from home (if not, this is a strong disincentive to testing or reporting)? Or are we all just rolling the dice? |
