DCPS: Required face masks for all students, staff, and visitors next year

And especially since AAP just made that same recommendation this week, for all to be wearing masks in schools, not sure why there's any surprises here.

I expected that my kid would have to wear a mask. I see no reason to kick up a fuss about it.

DCPS stated at the end of last year all people in the building will need to wear a mask. I'm fine with this decision to continue. It is an effective way of stopping the spread.

Let's move to the next issue, like testing staff and students. Will DCPS continue randomly testing the student population?

Here's a source for the argument that yes, COVID vaccines specifically can be required for a publicly-funded institution.

Would this apply to public schools which mandated vaccines? Almost certainly. Whether there is the political will to do so is another matter.

It's obvious this was going to happen.
Public schools cannot require proof of vaccination, so they can't trust that adults or kids will be vaccinated and therefore all they can do is require masks.

Private schools CAN require proof of vaccination, and have the luxury of not starting out with masks in their upper schools, although, they'll be forced to when cases surge in our area in the fall. They'll be able to buy a few months, that's all.

Vaccinations records are required for other diseases / why not Covid.

The rest of your post is just sour grapes.

The problem with DC is that we are not a state. Let's push for mandatory vaccinations for anyone over age 12 in schools - how long before some yahoo Congressman overrides this decision? In the name of freedom?

I dunno that they care. We didn't have yahoos from arkansas forcing us to reopen at full capacity.

For other pre-K parents, the Old Navy masks are my kiddo's favorite and can be purchased in 10-packs.

I am fine with mandated masking. But, I hope our charter tells any teacher that is concerned about safety that the answer is a vaccine.

These issues are exactly what the WTU president brought up in her WAPO op Ed. And yet she got blasted on DCUM.

Wrong. At this point, all private schools in DC are forced to comply with OSSEs school mask mandate, even if requiring vaccination among students and facility. It’s absolutely insane.

Nice try but that has nothing to do with this issue. We have our own incompetents running the show here.

That’s a poor characterization of what was discussed on DCUM. However, in the interest of not talking about WTU for once, I’ll leave it there.

Delta is transmissible from 15 feet away with an exposure time of under a minute. They need to be masking outside.

No, they don’t. That’s absurd.
