Teen/tween girls involved in carjackings

Another group of girls attempted a carjacking on Friday. None are even old enough to drive legally. At least they did not kill the driver like the last group which made the news.

What has shifted to.push 12yos into this type of crime? And what is the goal- to deliver the car to the head of a gang or just basic robbery?

No one died here and the other case was *felony* murder which is not the same as murder. The death was not intended as would be required for “normal” murder.

And, I agree, OP. There is a shift. Years ago, people would have been aghast at the idea of pre-teens attempting a car jacking.

What has changed? Lack of consequences. Poor role models. Mothers and fathers who don't parent. As long as these kids see others committing crimes and getting off with little more than a slap on the wrist, it will continue.

It is simply a life of lack of consequences.

DC will treat this as a property crime and the weapons charges will get tossed because at the end of the day, the DA here does not treat stun guns as weapons.

They'll be out and back to crime by the end of the week.

People are still aghast now. That doesn't mean stuff like that didn't happen then, in the past that you inaccurately remember as the good old days.

Certainly not all the old days were good (80s crack wars anyone?), but I don’t recall armed carjackings by twelve yr olds as being a thing.

Nobody called it "the good old days." I have a hard time recalling pre-teen kids being arrested for armed car-jacking just a few years ago.

You probably have a hard time recalling anybody getting arrested for armed car-jacking in the past, because it didn't used to be a thing. The term wasn't even invented until 1991.

Can you link to an article or news flash that tells about PRETEENS being arrest for armed car-jacking 10 years ago?
