Teen/tween girls involved in carjackings

Anonymous
Donald Trump is forcing teen girls to commit these crimes in DC.

Those girls are lucky they didn’t get shot.

Awfully dismissive of murder, PP.

No one died here and the other case was *felony* murder which is not the same as murder. The death was not intended as would be required for “normal” murder.

I'm sure this clarification does not matter to the family of the man who was murdered.

And, I agree, OP. There is a shift. Years ago, people would have been aghast at the idea of pre-teens attempting a car jacking.

What has changed? Lack of consequences. Poor role models. Mothers and fathers who don't parent. As long as these kids see others committing crimes and getting off with little more than a slap on the wrist, it will continue.

+1 Kids whose parents know how to have sex and give birth but nothing more.

Thank god they weren’t unmasked on a plane! They would have made front page new on WaPo. Now those kids were bad actors.

The Boston Brats? They were awful!

Honestly this is what will start happening if these types of crimes continue to increase without consequences for the criminals. People will take matters into their own hands and these young kids will try to car jack the wrong car with a person carrying a gun.

Kids are home playing Grand Theft Auto instead of watching The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family and Father Knows Best. You don't think there's a price to be paid for that?

What, you thought legalizing marijuana would keep them pacified?

Carjackings have increased because cars are harder to steal. If you don’t have a key, you can’t drive it.

Gangs have long used kids for low level crimes—that dates back at least to the Depression but probably longer (Oliver twist anyone?). Kids who don’t have good family structures are more susceptible to that.

Also, I’ve seen stats that violent crimes by girls has gone up a lot over recent decades. It’s the downside of feminism—girls can be just as crappy as boys now! Society used to tell boys to fight for what they wanted, and girls should sit down and/or support the boys—now girls feel as entitled as boys which is great in some ways but not in others.

The problem is that DC doesn’t provide swift and serious punishment for such offenses.

Truth.

And thanks to Racine, the city is moving in the opposite direction.

Expect the DC crime wave to get much worse.

Legalizing marijuana was intended to keep us pacified. We were supposed to turn into lotus eaters too messed up to notice that our city is being destroyed. Sadly, it seems to be working.

This. More people need to be aware of exactly how lenient Karl Racine’s office is on juvenile delinquents. There is a reason juvenile crime has spiked in the time since he became AG with his platform of juvenile justice reform.

Exactly this. Some people are so captured by their ideology that they can’t even acknowledge how insane it is that teenage girls are carjacking people now and extrapolate that it doesn’t exactly auger well for society writ large. It’s sad really that even something as abnormal as this can’t wake people up to that fact that American culture is on the decline. We elected a psychotic carnival barker as president in 2016 and teenage girls are carjacking people. It’s not exactly a picture of a healthy society moving in the right direction.

DC will treat this as a property crime and the weapons charges will get tossed because at the end of the day, the DA here does not treat stun guns as weapons.

They'll be out and back to crime by the end of the week.

Yup. DC has basically decriminalized juvenile crime, up to and including murder, as we saw with the earlier carjacking. No surprise you get more of it as a result. And no chance the policy will change given the views of the DC electorate. Buckle up.

I fear this is true. I invested a lot of money and many years of my life in DC and the promise of revitalized cities. I put up with a lot of nonsense at first because I could see the positive energy and beginnings of investment during the Williams administration. But I hate that the political will to keep cities functional and livable has clearly evaporated. We came so far, and now all that progress and all that investment is getting crapped up again by people who somehow can't reefer how bad things were the last time cities were allowed to decay.

I meant to write "remember," not "reefer." But that's part of the problem, too.
