Did you pay for it or make her pay for it? |
Not my child, but a fourth grader in my DDs class has a whole head of high and low lights. 10 years old. |
Probably around 9 or 10 I let mine color their hair in colors not found in nature. I paid for it. |
Senior in high school. She did it herself at home. |
As soon as she was old enough to ask for them. I think about junior high |
I let mine get highlights the summer between 8th and 9th grade. I paid for it.
They grew out this last year, and she just got a fairly short cut, so there are none left. She hasn't asked to have highlights done again, although i'd be happy to take her if she asked. |
I’m guessing 16; she’s currently 7. Had my first ones at 42. |
I would make mine pay for it.
Highlights are expensive. While we could easily afford, but maintenance also expensive and they should understand the costs. I did let my kids do purple, pink, blue and any other color they wanted. Hair grows back and not a battle I cared about. Much cheaper than hightlights. Mine are grown now. No one has pink hair LOL |
She got them when she was 16 and could pay for them herself. |

I don't think I'd allow it younger than high school, maybe 13. And I would pay for it just to make sure she got it done at a good place and didn't damage her hair. |
13 for dd, at the start of gr.8.
Ds had his hair dyed twice in grade 3 - orange and then blue. I would not normally have allowed (chemicals) that but he was shy and more reserved and I completely jumped on this chance to embrace him widening his self expression and comfort getting attention. Highlights were more about trying to look more grown up or trendy, not something dd always wanted. I would be let her dye her hair lavendar before letting her get highlights. |
With nearly black hair and not wanting to bleach, it won't happen until she's 18 and pays for them herself. |

Same except I did it myself. |
