Will Whittle be around next year?

Happy New Years to all those connected to Whittle. May your debts be paid, your teachers happy, and your students learning! And if that can't happen, then at least some truth from your school leaders on whether or not your kids have a school. On that topic... What happens to the graduating seniors if the school actually doesn't open up? Do they get diplomas? As a casual observer, I have so many questions about what is happening!

whittle parent here. i think the school will reopen, at least temporarily. the parents have managed to scrap enough together to keep the school operating for a month. not sure what will happen after that though!

What does that mean exactly? Donations or loans or pre-paid tuition?

This is just classic Whittle.... Instead of doing the right thing and shutting down the school before the holidays and allowing kids and teachers to find new options for the remainder of the school year, it seems he has conned enough parents with the promise of money-on-the-way to pony up enough to keep the school on life support through Jan... At which point, it will be too late to find an alternative and he will find ways to get parents to keep things going through the end of the school year while getting them further ensnared in his convoluted and highly indebted cap structure... Btw - here's why he needs to keep this illusion going - the school is his only remaining "asset" following the foreclosure of his house.. And he's probably still claiming he's worth millions on paper because the school is so very successful...

Good luck... You're going to need it. Happy New Year!

Yeah. This dragging it out is painful to watch. Whittle families should just move on now.

Do your kids a favor and get them into your local public school on Monday.

What happens if its the end of January and they close the school? Your kid won't be able to finish out the year.

This is exactly the scenario Chris Whittle is counting on... Because then he'll have all the families over a barrel and willing to prop up the sham until at least the end of the school year...

I hear they're in session for next week at least. Good luck to the families weathering this storm.

These posts don’t make any sense. How and in what manner have families “ponied up” to keep the school running?

They have 2-300 students and apparently need millions of dollars just to cover arrears.

To raise the reported $2m needed, they would need each family to contribute $10,000 on top of the money they have already paid or are contracted to pay.

This makes little sense that in just a couple weeks this fundraising was successful because even GDS, a non-profit, would probably need a month or two to raise $2m.

Whatever is going on in this thread, I call b.s.

There is no weathering the storm. The ship is totalled.

I feel worse for the teachers. Have they been paid yet?

If the teachers are halfway decent they could have another job by Monday

Not possible. Just in MD alone you have to get paperwork completed by every single former employer to work with children. This could take weeks.
