I feel worse for the teachers. Have they been paid yet?

If the teachers are halfway decent they could have another job by Monday

More likely they will end up subbing and tutoring while they find real schools to take them in the fall. The teacher hiring process at this point is geared up for 2022-23.

A lot of teachers think this is a scam. I spoke to one today. They asked for a new staff rep and were told to "grow up." They were called "entitled" and "spoiled" on an all staff meeting last week by the administrators.

Wait, "spoiled and entitled" because they WANT TO BE PAID? Capitalism at it's finest. How about self-care bath bomb while you lose your paychecks and health insurance, but stop being whiney about it.

I really feel for the teachers, but if any of them show up for work on Monday I think they are nuts.

No they're not. If the school closes, they can file for unemployment. If they don't show up they've quit and will have no income until they can find another job. With the teacher shortage, I imagine they'll find something for the fall without any problem, but until then it might be tricky other than as a sub. It's a totally messed up situation and I really feel for them. I hope they all land on their feet at new schools as quickly as possible.

The school is on an extended holiday this week because they can’t afford to open. Then virtual for another week anyway.

how convenient

Closing can’t make much difference to their costs. They still owe rent and payroll.

I mean closing for a week/being virtual.

Who's teaching the virtual classes if they can't afford to open/pay the teachers?

So they don't pay the teachers an annual salary? I don't understand how adding a week of break saves money unless they were already being exploitative.

The teachers are worried that they’re being lied to. They have not been allowed to talk to parents about the different information being told. They asked a bunch of questions that were then emailed to the school. The school provided a lot of non-answers answers. The school administrators will not let them elect their own representative.

Representative to what? Do you mean the faculty would like to appoint one teacher to sit in on executive meetings, but the executive staff doesn't allow that? Or what?

And just who have been considered the executive-level people in this for-profit enterprise, anyway?

Have the heads and assistant heads of school been included as part of the top decision-making team (as they should be)?

Or has that pile of directors-of-this-and-that-global-function that Whittle assembled done all the real deliberation and decision making, with the actual educators, including heads of school, kept at arm's length and frequently uninformed?

I’m new to this conversation. What is the actual current enrollment at Whittle? How many teachers are we talking about?

The temp certificate of occupancy for the building expires Jan 5....usually with a bill attached to it.....

on 12/29 further notice of pending lawsuit was filed regarding the $6.9M in liens already pending enforcement--possibly by the landlord washing hands of the mess...just a guess.
