Is she a dr? And is she currently cutting? |
When has Langdon helped someone outside the scope of his employment as a doctor? |
We really haven’t seen any of the characters outside of the hosptial so not sure we can say. |
Maybe she will do it in the supply closet or something. Who knows. |
Explain, logistically, how Langdon will "catch" Santos cutting during their hospital shift. |
She's not an idiot. That would not be believable. She'd do it in a bathroom stall. |
The point is that there is nothing about being a doctor that is incompatible with this not-very-rare mental health symptom. And it is not hard to believe that someone who was cutting as a teen to deal with abuse might turn to it as an adult if memories of that abuse were triggered |
These people are fictional. If we haven't seen it had it described on the show, it doesn't exist. |
So in other words we don’t know. Langdon is caring and compassionate at work so I can see him trying to help her. Have you seen any other character helping someone outside of the hospital? |
So no and no. It is highly unbelievable that a current doctor would be cutting and especially while at work. |
I mean she grabbed a scalpel and put it in her pocket at work in plain sight. That’s pretty idiotic to me. |
If that’s the only way to get Langdon to view it and that’s the story they want to tell, that’s how it will happen. Whether it’s believable or not who cares. It’s a fictional TV show. There are many things happening that aren’t realistic. |
The original comment was "no way a cutter becomes a dr." Given that more than 1 in 10 teens, and 1 in 5 teenage girls, has engaged in cutting or other self injury, this is a really ridiculous assertion. I don't go around asking my friends if they are cutters because it's a private activity that is none of my business. But I also don't judge it as a behavior because I've known more than one person who does it or did it, and it's usually just a sign of overwhelm of poor mental health. Plenty of doctors have poor mental health whether they are cutters or not. It's just weird to assert that cutting is somehow incompatible with becoming a doctor, and you have yet to explain WHY you think this, especially when we all know that doctors can have a broad variety of mental health issue including addiction, depression, personality disorders, anxiety, PTSD, just to name a few (many of which are represented on this show). |
It sounds soapy and silly to me. Even last season, when they had Robby walk in on Dr. Collins giving herself an ultrasound, was one of the dumber things we've seen on the show. But at least that had the internal logic of Collins wanting to check on her pregnancy ASAP and needing access to an ultrasound in an exam room. But someone who cuts is not going to do that in an unlocked supply closet, especially since we know Santos has a longer history with it (some of her scars looked old) so would know how to hide it. She would choose somewhere with a door she could lock, no question. |
We know the scalpel is likely for cutting because we've seen her scars. There are several plausible reasons a doctor might grab a scalpel at work, so even if someone saw and thought it was weird, they'd be unlikely to say anything and I don't think would jump to the conclusion that's what it's for -- even some viewers didn't get it. So really not a very risky behavior IMO. |
