I don't love that it's from Fox news but no way in hell that's a college student. A-hole paid protestors doing nothing but stirring up division.

At what point do these college students need to take some responsibility for the divisive people protesting alongside them?

On both the right and the left, this is a problem. And both sides are afraid to call out their more extreme members and prefer to just pretend that they aren't responsible.

The problem is that both sides are treated so differently (in particular by the media) on this issue.

I hate that these schools are getting painted with broad brushstrokes by a hyperventilating media desperate for content. At UCLA it was literally like 200 protestors - some of whom don't even attend the school - out of a student body of 30,000.

Insane that these clowns are getting so much attention, but the media LOVES this type of content that sucks all the oxygen out of the room.

Schools are allowing this. Why are 5% of students plus unauthorized non students allowed to hijack campuses?

DP.

Protesting is fine. Fair game. Part of the college experience.

Universities just need to enforce their time/place/manner restrictions so it doesn't disrupt other students' education.

And arrest non-students for trespass.

This

Protest all day, skip your classes/exams and blow the end of the school year and then tuck yourself into your dorm bed at night and wake up to do it all over again the next day.

Encampments encourage non-students from slipping in and create unsafe situations. They also create a situation that’s harder to control and graduations and other events get canceled.

Yes- Jan 6th rioters were treated like criminals and these protesters - calling for violence and intifada - are being treated with kid gloves likened to civil rights activists.

I'm not condoning calling for violence and intifada, but it doesn't rise to the same level as actually perpetrating violence and intifada, which the J6 rioters did.

I think breaking into private property as the Columbia rioters have done, refusing to leave private campus, and preventing Jewish students from passing through to get to class - as occurred on UCLA’s campus- should certainly be considered trespassing, vandalizing, and harassment, respectively. Their message is a lot less palatable when they use violent and aggressive tactics. This is not civil disobedience.

For what it’s worth, I was not bothered by these protests until the turn they took over the past week or so. The protestors are not in their right state of mind, and that is dangerous. They are very much like the Jan 6th rioters at this point- desperate and deranged.

Students occupying Columbia buildings calling for divestment to pressure a president stop a war. Where have I heard that before? Must be Jan 6

Independent of the actions of these students, talks are continuing about a cease fire and release of additional hostages.

There are many names that the hall could be renamed, both Palestinian and Israeli, including the living hostages.

The Israelis have said they will invade Rafeh regardless of whether or not there is a ceasefire.

Your brain cells are not working correctly. Maybe reboot and see if that helps?

They said that when it became clear that Hamas has no intention of agreeing to a ceasefire. And why would they? They release the hostages, they have no leverage. They keep the hostages, no ceasefire, Israel continues its operation, and Gaza continues to get sympathy in the media. That’s exactly what Hamas wants. They don’t care about the Palestinians dying. Hamas leadership are all safe in exile and they have things exactly where they want them.

DP. You need a reality check. The Columbia protesters are no better than the J6ers at this point. Disrupting operations and destroying property is over the line. The J6 people felt just as justified in their cause as the Gaza protesters do. Both groups are nuts and dangerous. You are biased if you don’t see the parallels. Get out of your progressive bubble. This is a really, really bad look.

+1
It’s truly mind-boggling to see the difference in treatment. These protesters are animals and should be treated as such. Masked rioters, breaking windows and barricading themselves inside buildings? Where’s the SWAT team?

And these thugs shouldn’t just be “suspended,” they should be expelled. With an arrest record.
Anonymous
These idiots are leaving their trash behind for the custodial staff - nice. Campus administrators should insist protesters clean up their messes and also do the landscaping work necessary to restore the green spaces they’ve ruined. What spoiled, disgusting behavior.
Anonymous
The footage coming out of the protesters destroying things and blocking/pushing out other students is just really, really not good or persuasive at all.
