Field hockey clubs feedback

Facts matter: In 2024 Yorktown did not play an ISL team. Fairfax did, beating the ISL champion 4-2. Yorktown beat Fairfax twice in 2024, the second time being in the State Semi-Finals and then went on to win the State Championship. Yorktown only has played an ISL team once in the past five years.

This was a really weak year for the ISL. None of the teams were very strong. I doubt the All-ISL team could beat Oakton or Yorktown and I don't even think the Yorktown team is that good. Oakton was much more talented. Yorktown had two really strong players. Indy is hands down the strongest team in Northern Va.

Wow. Strongly disagree.

Independence certainly has the most future D1 players across their roster. Their two seniors are both in the mix for national team.No other team in NoVa has that level of elite talent. I would agree that the Yorktown team wasn't super talented; but those kids know how to win much to our frustration.

I agree with this- Indy beat Yorktown 6-0 and Loudoun Valley in the beginning of the season and even though their teams in the district aren’t very talented, the region and state teams are. Say what you want about Independence, but no one can doubt they are a very strong team and program.

I think the thing with Yorktown is that every single year they usually have two to three really strong players who get a lot of accolades and recognition. But somehow the rest of the team really steps up by the end of the season. Oakton beat Yorktown in the regional finals but then the following week Yorktown came back to beat them in the state championship. So, losing games can be an advantage if it fuels a fire to win in the end. I think any player/coach would rather have a few losses that led to a state championship over having an undefeated season but losing in the championship game.

Regarding Indy, how many times have they won states and did they just win in Fall 2024? Just wondering...I am not too familiar with the Loudoun Co schools.

I agree that the ISL is not as strong once the 2023s left. But the fact is, Yorktown has never won against Stone Ridge or any other ISL teams. Would they win against any out of the top 5, yes, most likely. But against Stone Ridge, Visi, this year's Holy Child and last year's Bullis and Potomac, it would have been unlikely. It shouldn't be taken so personally, it is just a fact that the publics get much more attention when it comes to awards--as teams and individuals.

Yes, they won states last year and have been semifinalists almost every year since about 2021 if i’m remembering correctly.

Indy had amazing field players this year and a D1 committed GK. And they lost more than once and lost in the state semis. That’s not the strongest team in the area.

There are lots of local schools, also, who have made the state tournament many times over.

Think about this: the Potomac player who scored so many goals over her ISL career couldn't get recruited by any D1 schools. What does that say about the quality of the ISL? Don't take that personally- it's just a fact.

Visi? You're joking right?

Both those teams have such great team culture and grit. My kiddo's HS team is in Yorktown's division, so we play them at least once a year. They're beatable for sure (isn't any team, really?), but what sets them apart is how they find a way to recover after a setbacks--whether its being down by a goal or after a major defeat. I chalk that up to coaching, not just the players' talent. Of which Oakton and Yorktown have in abundance.

But I think the coaching at those programs really sets them apart.

Isn’t this thread supposed to be about youth club field hockey opportunities and feedback? Why is everyone talking about high school fh wins and losses?? Who cares. Let’s stick to the forum topic please

Winter Escape happened. Warhawks did well. Wolves and Alpha did not. Alpha did better than Wolves.
