Sounds like he was driving like that all the time.

"Prosecutors said data from the navigation system of the car Herrin was driving, a Ford Mustang, “recorded multiple speeding incidents in the days before the crash,” including 162 mph on a nearby highway a few days before the fatal crash, and 84 mph on Bayshore Boulevard, where the victims were killed, the Times reported."

Ugh he should not be sentenced for that long. It’s unforgivable what he did but putting him in prison for that long does the world no good.

He had a chance to agree to a plea deal like his fellow driver who got 6 years. He decided to go to trial in a state where all prisoners are required to finish a minimum of 85% of their sentence.

I’m not sure why race had to be brought it? It’s a tragedy and generally fatal car crashes are never criminally charges (regardless of race). the real story here is a pedestrian death being treated like homicide (which it should be more often). also the gleefulness in light of long criminal sentences doesn’t really help with the general movement to reduce incarceration.

Does the world plenty of good. I've seen minor weed dealers with longer sentences.

He's rich. His parents are rich. They paid the victim's widower $700,000 in cash after a civil suit in addition to $5 million from an insurance policy. I guess he assumed his father could get him out of this as well.

He’s 21. Why was he a “kid” while black and brown boys under 18 are not given that courtesy on DCUM. Years ago, I used to regularly confront reporters over this. One reporter described a black 17 year old and her mom as “two women” while describing a white 23 year old and her mother as “girl and her mom”. This was in the same story!

Maybe because others might have played it safe with a plea deal but he was inclined to take the risk? That would be consistent with his driving record.

Seems like he likes to roll the dice.

I think it is very deserved. He killed two people, including a child.

What difference does it make if he used a gun or a car?

You’re right, old sparky would be a much better solution for this monster

So? Every single person in prison for a drug crime should be released and their felonies expunged. None of these long prison sentences does the world any good.
