How much money would you give to a niece for her wedding? We are very set financially, but do not want sister in law to feel she has to reciprocate equally when our children marry. Just wondering what a nice amount would be. |
$1000 |
Couple hundred |
$250 |
$1000 feels appropriate if you can afford it. If not $500. |
If the difference in your financial status is large I would give $500 now so your SIL doesn’t feel awkward. You can always give her more later for a housewarming, baby shower etc. |
It can also be money she uses for the entire first semester if her parents don’t have a lot of extra. |
When I married three years ago, my aunts/uncles gave $100. Wondering if $1,000 is a typo?? |
Same!! |
When I married 25 years ago, every co-corker couple gave us $100. My 5 siblings pitched in for a $125 plastic deck table/chairs (which we asked for and loved). Now we give $1,000. |
Are you from Ohio, Wisconsin or rural PA? Those seem like the kinds of places where people would give $100. Anything under $500 would be odd in my family and friend circles. |
My favorite aunt gave me $1000. Are you close to your niece? |
I would give between $500-$1,000.

I was going to say $250 but our annual income is 200K. What one gives is dependent on what one makes. |
It depends what ethnicity and religion and class you are. |
