So do we have any inkling of how many students went private for this year? We don't know any families from DHMS that went private, but we honestly were hoping enough people would leave to help reduce the overcrowding projected for high school?
Any insight on the numbers, we are still remote so don't really see a wide swath of the school. |
Not sure on the numbers, but per Duran's email to parents last night, they are polling families that left for private to see if they plan to return in the fall. |
We are a private family, we haven’t heard that and we are still on fence of returning. How has instruction been? Overcrowding at high school is a worry we have too. |
To be clear, we are an APS family that went private (in person was needed). |
We withdrew my Kindergartner a week before school started because we got a private spot. We haven't been contacted. We won't be returning next year because we needed to commit to the private and had little faith APS would be 5 full days a year. I also find the excessive use of iPads for early elementary to be deeply concerning and may be the reason we abandon public all together. |
Here's what the message said: 'Enrollment Projections for Fall 2021—As part of planning for the 2021-22 school year, schools are conducting outreach now to ascertain families’ intent to return in the fall, from families who withdrew from APS since March 2020 due to the pandemic. Having accurate enrollment information is important for the FY 2022 budget, staffing schools, and preparation for the upcoming school year. Please help spread the word to any families, friends, or neighbors you may know who opted out of APS and are considering returning in the fall.' |
They didn’t withdraw because of the pandemic. They withdrew because of APS’s response to the pandemic. |
Agree! |
True! I’d say that our school is down 10-12% since spring 2020 levels. I know of more leaving for 2021-2022. |
Well 10% would help with overcrowding. Maybe that was SB master plan... |
We are still here, but I'm 95% relocating over the summer and will not return to APS in the fall. Going somewhere that has all kids returning 5 days in April. |
Can Duran be that strategic? I hope yes, fear no. |
I've thought the same thing!! Make it miserable for everyone and their big-picture issues will solve themselves. |
Absolutely. We left for private and won’t return to APS. We no longer get the APS emails...did the email say to email your plans to your school administrator? |
We withdrew because of the pandemic. APS's response was very reasonable, but we had special circumstances that didn't work for our family during the pandemic. We are heading back in the fall - already talked to the principal about it. |
