Ice Cream Nightly

Anonymous
Do you think its weird for an adult to have ice cream nightly? My friends think its hilarious (?) I exercise and am fit but have a sweet tooth.
Anonymous
Not weird. But it may lead to weight gain. Of you enjoy it go for it.

I eat ice cream (or some other sweet thing) almost every night too.

Me too.

It's not really all that uncommon. I switch ice cream before the novelty wears off though and move on to another type of sweet. Everything in moderation - shrug.

It won't necessarily be weight gain. When my father had triple by pass at a pretty young age, I asked the doctor after what i should or shouldn't eat a lot of and the number one answer? Ice cream. I was eating a pint a day and in great shape. You can't always see the dangers fatty foods promote.

I eat ice cream every night. Have for probably 15 years. (Every now and then I’ll get tired of it and take a few months off.) I’m a runner, very fit. Nobody messes with my ice cream time.

I eat ice cream nightly but haven’t gained any weight. I exercise a lot and eat healthy foods throughout the day. Other than ice cream and dark chocolate, I’m not a big sweets person.

I have a yasso bar every night

Well, no, nobody should be eating a pint a day.

My dad has it every night. He is 80. I think it was more common for the older generation.

I don’t eat a pint a day, but about a cup a day, and I still weigh below average and my cholesterol is good. Key is to exercise and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables.

I don't eat much ice cream, but I do eat full fat organic plain yogurt most days. Should I not?

I thought the fat from food like that wasn't as bad as people used to think.

So a cup of ice cream per day is about 400 calories and 25 grams of fat (the majority is saturated). As long as you are decreasing your calories and saturated fats elsewhere in your diet, it does not matters whether you eat ice cream daily. Only the daily totals matter!

For the record, I have a huge sweet tooth and eat some sort of dessert (or multiple desserts) every day. I've been on a brownie sundae kick recently for some reason. No big deal as long as I cut back on other calories and eat plenty of fruits and veggies.

I love those!

I also have dessert most nights. Once, when I was in my 20s, I was with friends and served myself some ice cream. Some of them laughed about how small my portion was, but I guess that's the key ... I'd rather have a little something most nights than overdoing it once in a while. Now I'm in my 40s and very fit ... hasn't caught up with me yet.
