AEM is not happy about SB1303

Anonymous
I'm sorry, but can AEM just stop with their constant whining and complaining that schools are finally re-opening for in-person learning? There is a crew that monopolizes the conversation at every turn to cite how dangerous this is. For goodness sake, for those who really don't feel it's safe, please keep your children virtual. I've been tempted to respond that we need to accept the very small level of risk associated with re-opening but know I'll likely get kicked out and attacked.

Apparently, they removed someone from the group yesterday responding with support for reopening. Their way or the highway.

What do you care? It passed, right? I think I know of three teachers that use AEM.

I care because I'm fearful they will continue to battle, and we will not have 5 days in-person in the fall.

I don’t buy that. My friends and I have repeatedly reported some of the open school folks who are constantly attacking teachers, and they don’t get banned.

Specifically, there are two dads who are total jerks to people on that forum. One constantly talks about how teachers are second rate and how they suck. The other one will hop in at any time to criticize anyone who wanted school closed and loves to beat a dead horse.

Luckily they don’t have that power. Insiders are saying Northam is going to require full in person in the fall.

Maybe I don't follow closely enough but the dad that posted in support/excitement of re-opening wasn't rude or harsh in his post when he was removed from the group

I support their right to assert their position. If we don't allow people to speak up about issues important to them then what good is it to live in a democracy?

I would agree if AEM had the same attitude.. but they don't. If you don't support AEM's stance on opening/not-opening schools, you are blocked or attacked. They are not a supportive and inclusive group.

Um, no. I'm pretty sure the moderator is in support of the schools opening up. She does not delete anti-teacher or aggressive posts.

The all virtual crowd has a completely different Facebook group. From what I have seen on AEM, it appears the moderators has a child(ren?), going back to school.

The most visible moderator has a tough job and I think she does it well. She starts a lot of threads and seems to stay level headed throughout conversations. I would be really surprised if someone was kicked out for simply supporting a position, because A LOT of nasty stuff on both sides gets a pass every day. If someone was banned, he must have done something pretty bad.
