Chiko

I’m excited to try the new Chiko that opened in Bethesda but having a hard time navigating the menu bc I’m always paranoid about eating something I shouldn’t be while pregnant. Any recs for what to order vs what to avoid?

I’m confused. Is it different from any other restaurant? You can’t just avoid the pregnancy no nos? Is there something I’m missing here?

there's literally nothing on the menu you can't eat. it's asian fusion.

Well, the menu doesn't show how dishes are prepared or all of the ingredients, so I just figured it would be easier to get recommendations from someone who has eaten there before. For example, just glancing at the menu, I can't tell if the chicken with egg fried rice contains chopped up bean sprouts or not. I also have no idea what "XO paste" is in the shrimp and toast (not that shrimp appeals to me right now anyway, but just another example). I'm assuming the "half-a-cado" salad which contains radishes is not cooked, but don't know that either. So again, just looking for recs from someone who is more familiar.

Why can't you eat bean sprouts or radishes? And, why can't you google "What is in XO paste?" I did.

Well no, I can already tell I can't eat the egg battered beef, the brisket, etc... those would all be pregnancy don'ts. As I just posted above, they don't seem to list all of their ingredients or how things are prepared, so I'm thinking there is probably a fair amount a pregnant woman can't eat there.

Why would you not just...ask the restaurant? Instead of an anonymous board hoping someone had eaten there and memorized what was safe on the menu? This is the strangest post I've ever seen.

Rats, I thought this was going to be a post about naming your kid Chiko.

Because they carry a listeria risk. If you could post the info for the Chiko XO paste that would be awesome, thanks so much!!! I can't seem to find it online. My husband is super excited to try this restaurant tonight!

You cannot be a real person.

Why are you being mean? I thought maybe people were more familiar with the restaurant and could say, "yes I love ABC but I'd avoid XYZ if you're pregnant." There was a recent similar post about Sweetgreen that I found helpful. In my experience when I have asked chain restaurants how things are prepared they don't really know the answer. For example, I asked a woman at Cava whether their tahini Caesar dressing was pasteurized the other day and she said she had no clue.

Can everyone who is posting bullying posts about my trying to order a pregnancy safe dish at a restaurant I have never been to before please stop? It's so strange and passive aggressive.

Why would you not be able to eat the brisket? Because of the egg? Just...don't eat that part. Duh
