Thanks! We've been CYA for years but just was hearing about this merger as a new thing!

If so, that's 3 years of "meetings". And nothing has changed in that time to make this any more realistic. 2 clubs with different boards, different sets of debt, and multiple sports outside of soccer to worry about. Also 2 clubs with debts for private facilities that don't make each other really attractive to the other.

Also, CYA travel soccer has lost so many coaches and players by now, SYA is better off looking at another club.

Merger wouldn't benefit either club. Its not like there is any realistic talent coming out of there. Both should just ride out any covid losses they might have. Just stay in your lane and keep the low level yet consistent profit rolling in. Dont try to make a jump to play with the big boys. Geographically neither is in a great position to hit big and the player pool is too spread out to hope for consistent quality play.

Player pool is too spread out? Between Chantilly and Centreville? I think from a location standpoint, they are in a really good location, since a lot of their fields are right off of 28 and/or 66, so they could also draw from Prince William and Loudoun, etc. CYA was good not too long ago when Oscar was TD. Both clubs, whether separate or combined, really need a significant upgrade in terms of technical staff.

Arguably one of the areas most recent talented players Griffin Yow was developed at SYA from u8-u15. Played on the 01 Boys team (really good team) under the former Boys DOC.

That 1 .

Doesn't seem too deep there.

SYA had another player, a golakeeper, just get signed by one of the MLS teams. Sorry, can't remember any more details.

I don't see how either club would benefit by creating one giant club. Both have lots of other sports besides travel soccer to be concerned about. Volunteers run all the other sports and asking a volunteer to run a gigantic basketball program or rec soccer program is a lot.

Agree. No volunteer wants to be in charge of 300 U8 rec soccer players, coaches, and parents. For instance.

What would the advantage be to both clubs to merging their programs? They couldn't just merge soccer, it would have to be all their sports and that's a logistical nightmare. SYA probably owes money for their fields and CYA is in a lot of debt presumably for buying the fieldhouse.

Yup, this whole thing is a soccer fantasy. And even if they could find a way to just have the soccer portions merge, merging the staffs would be nearly impossible.

You can't merge just the soccer programs when the overall organizations have money flowing in and out of soccer to support the sports park and fieldhouse debt servicing and other sports programs.

Whose fantasy?
