Probably inviting a ton of hate mail, but based on winter league play, here's my guess at the 'preseason top 10' of where things are in the DC/Baltimore metro area -
Stone Ridge St Pauls School for Girls McDonogh Georgetown Visitation Notre Dame Prep Glenelg Country St. Stephens Bishop Ireton Bullis Madison High School Any takers? |
| Well no one is playing each other on your list. Laughable |
|
You can’t mix the Baltimore schools and DC schools into one list. Take out the Baltimore area teams: McD, SPSG, NDP and Glenelg Country
Agree on Stone Ridge. They have the depth and the talent. No way will Visi be that good. They may have looked good in indoor but on a full field against Saints and their lack of depth will be very apparent. They may be able to beat BI but even that is debatable. Bullis? Are you high? And Madison doesn’t belong. May be best public team this season in NoVa but that means nothing. They’d lose to most area privates. |

Agree that you can’t mix Baltimore schools in there.
For the area, SSSAS may be the best 12 v 12. Stone Ridge has shown that they have the top end talent to compete though, but can they match the depth. Visi can’t be discounted as they can push either of those two. Ireton would be fourth, but history says don’t sleep on them. That’s the top tier with a handful of privates that are good but below that. As for the the VA public’s, it’s probably down to 6-8 teams to sort themselves out on who can win the state. Covid rules on only taking regional champions this year to states mean that top teams will knock each other out before the state tournament. |
| Agree with the PP's assessment. The VA publics may have 5-6 teams, but these schools are spread across 6A, 5A, and 4A. Each division has at least one team that can compete well against the stronger teams in the area, but would not expect them to win those games. 6A may come down to 2-3 teams. 5A and 4A may have one team each. |
| I don’t get why you think Visi has the chance of a great season. They have maybe 4-6 strong seniors. No juniors to speak of and the sophomore class has never really played at the highschool level so unlikely to make an impression. Where’s the opportunity? |

No Good Counsel? But you put Bullis? Okay.
GC has dominated the BWI indoor league and had a really strong showing at the National Indoor Championships - better than SSSAS and BI. |
| Indoor is a good comparable but not 100% indicator of the field game. SSSAS has a ton of depth, is Senior led and their team is comprised mostly of the Capital 2021 team. They will be in the mix at the top when all is said and done. And if you're talking WCAC - might as well mention SJC. They beat Bullis in their only game last season and led by underclassmen. |
| St Stephens lost to Visitation last night and Stone Ridge a few weeks ago, St Stephens is definitely NOT the best team in our area whether its 7 v 7 or 12 v 12. |
GC is definitely not better than St Stephens or Ireton. Thats just crazy town. |
| Good luck relying on indoor games as your barometer of a team's success. Indoor does not equate to 12v12 |
| True but PP has a point about the loses |
|
No but it also doesn't mean they don't belong in the conversation. SSSAS and GC had a close scrimmage in spring of 2020 with GC coming out on top. BI lost most of their main firepower to 2020 class.
GC also beat Glenelg Country this fall and lost to St. Pauls by 1. Destroyed Visi in that same league. And that was 12v12. Mentioning Bullis but not GC is laughable. But sure, ignore them. |
| thought the WCAC bagged their spring seasons |
| Folks Holy Child will dominate this year. Stone Ridge has an incredible groups of players as well. In the end it isn’t about who is on the team as much as how the teams play together. Until the parents realize it isn’t just about one or two players. |
