Northam expanding school year into the summer -- we need the same in DC

Northam tells the Washington Post just now that it's needed to help these kids catch up on all the learning they've missed.

We need this in DC. Our kids are terribly far behind.

DCPS can’t just decide to add more days onto the contract without paying more. It’s the same thing that happened during summer bridge (volunteer basis).

Yeah, kids don't get a break (literally) - more punishment for them when adults fail.

Teachers aren't allowed to strike either, but teachers don't care so much about that, do they?

Or is the rule that if you don't call it a strike, then it's not a strike and it's allowed? Isn't that what teachers say? Maybe we could invent a new name for summer school so it's allowed too.

They are not going to vote for a strike. It’s a bluster.

Anyway, you can call summer school anything you want. DCPS will offer summer school to everyone this summer, just like they always do. Sign up if you want. Don’t sign up if you don’t want.

I’m not sure why anyone is even talking about this. Northam released ZERO information on this. For all anyone knows it’s voluntary summer school with a different name.
