This. It's about outcomes, not inputs (although some teachers aren't working very hard at all). |
Why does s/he also need to police colleagues? You people are insufferable. I agree with you on the outcomes, but teacher burnout is going to be a huge problem. The systems are failing us all. |
You're worried that "teacher burnout is going to be a huge problem" but the reason is because the teachers insisted on DL rather than in person. So how is it being insufferable for her to suggest that they just go back to in person? |
| Not all teachers wanted DL!! And there were some who had to stay DL for various reasons. Parents who constantly tear us apart are not helping. This is hard on everyone and burnout will be huge. |
So will our children not learning. |
Again, complaining about burnout from the method teaches forced is ridiculous. Obviously not every teacher was in favor of what the group forced and obviously some have legitimate health considerations that are addressed under the ADA. |
| Back to the topic. Anyone hear the plan? |

This is a useless thread that will only serve to incite anger.
If you would like summer school DCPS will offer that. DCPS could definitely try and violate the teacher's contract, as both sides have. However the law will be followed, what this will do is just give DCPS a hefty fine they will have to pay. Now DCPS can propose to extend the school year but the WTU will have to agree and of course teachers must be paid extra. That won't happen, and I am a teacher who works ESY (extended school year) every summer. I work this because the hours are shorter and it is not all of summer break. I want to see my family too, I did not travel over the holidays like some fools did. |
All they have to do is remove the blanket exemption that allows DL days to count as school. Then things start falling into place. |
You're funny, at the end of the day WHO was in charge of meeting safety metrics and not caring if teachers 'threatened' or participated in a strike? Why did it take DCPS and the mayor 11 months to get HVAC systems in place and meet other safety metrics? Why did it take 11 months to say, 'no, you'll be working in person if you legally have to.' The sickout didn't even have half of teachers participate. You've been seeing what the WTU has asked for and keep saying they shift the goalposts but what did the mayor and chancellor do to combat that? Nothing. You can continue to vilify teachers but it will not get more students back in person, I promise. |
They could do that but teachers have worked those hours regardless, therefore they will still have to count hours that have passed. Future hours however could be counted. But the problem with that is that then all teachers who are DL would have to be off until the summer. teachers work a total of 196 days, and they cannot go over that. So either they are 'off' 8 weeks now or later. |
| This is dumb. OSSE is not getting rid of the waiver. End of story |
Truth. It's interesting to see how many people of privilege think, I am surprised but I shouldn't be. |
The parents who whine about their kids not being in school tickle me. If you can't stand distance learning so much, then move! Go down south to like GA where your little one can learn in a COVID crockpot all day!

We need to do something about learning loss. |
