I just saw that on today's SB meeting, they added a new calendar C option that removes the new 4 religious holidays? It also moves spring break to a fixed week.

Normally I have an opinion on the school calendar, but next year? I can't imagine anything they decide on now will stick.
|
| Good, I really don’t understand why Spring break always fall doing the holly week. |
I do agree with that. I just don't know why they made a huge deal out of being inclusive by adding these new holidays, then changed it. Is it because of an outcry? Because it makes fall a tad more awkward and lengthens the school year? I'm a Christian, so don't celebrate these religious holidays, but I can totally understand the argument that we should have them. My dream calendar would have a fixed spring break, just a week for Christmas, Good Friday off, and the 4 identified holidays. That way we'd still get out early and we'd hit most major religious observances. |
You have a good point. |
| We are catholic so I feel like that was always related to Good Friday but I’m fine just getting Good Friday off too. Or even better Easter Monday. |
|
I'd rather have Spring break in early April. I don't really care either way regarding it being tied to Easter. However early March means you're competing with college spring breaks and travel is more money and more crowded. If you stay local the weather is often still too cold to really enjoy all day outdoor activities.

| I live in Loudoun. All the loudoun residents who are Fairfax teachers will pitch a hissy if the spring breaks don’t align. |
Really good point. Has Loudon already passed their calendar? Apparently FCPS isn't even voting on it today, just discussing. |
Version C doesn't have Good Friday off. Easter is like a regular weekend. Even if they adopt version C, I suspect it will get changed because people wouldn't be ready for an abrupt switch from a whole week off to nothing off. |
Yes. Spring break is always the week before Easter and next year is no different. We also added all the many many religious holidays. |
I'm the poster who suggested just getting Good Friday off. I know my version of the calendar will never pass because most people want a 2 week winter break. I grew up in FCPS and remember when we only had a week back in the 90s and early 00s (didn't pay attention to when it changed). It was fine, which is why I suggest it, but it's not happening. |
| When are they deciding on this? Isn’t the calendar discussion happening now? I can never get audio on the stream. |
Agree. Hate the two week winter break. It’s too expensive to fly anywhere good. |
The presentation says the actual decision is (I wish I were joking) TBD. |
