FCPS Calendar C Option?

Agree. APS's calendar specifically aligns with what FCPS proposed. They even added in the 4 holidays. I though FCPS already voted on this long ago - I was surprised it was just being voted on now.

I also thought it was already decided.

There was a thread a few weeks ago where someone asked about it and everyone else was confused thinking it had been decided. This year and this school board are both something else.

Pls don't end June 10th. It's already hard to find camp the week after school ends, now we'll have TWO weeks that we have to scramble for?

Also I think early release days are a waste. I'd rather they give the whole day off.

At this point I'd rather they just settle on something and keep it roughly the same from year to year.

Good, those explicitly religious holidays should not be in the school calendar.

I agree.

Put spring break a little later like the first week of April.

Better weather.

Not clumped up to all the January through February holidays and snow days.

We prefer Spring Break in March. The weather is dreary in DC, so good mental health break to travel someplace warm.

You think your response is ok because you use the term explicitly religious. It’s not. Give us the week off at the end of the year that is not the same as Christmas. We can afford a trip that way.

Version C doesn't have Good Friday off. Easter is like a regular weekend.

Even if they adopt version C, I suspect it will get changed because people wouldn't be ready for an abrupt switch from a whole week off to nothing off.

There is no reason to give Good Friday off other than to accommodate Christians (I am one). You cannot do that. Kids can abstain from meat and repent while in class, and attend mass in the evening. Just like working adults do.

Agreed. Schools should be in session during all explicitly religious holidays. Just make sure that when your child misses tests or other assignments on Christmas or Easter, you are prepared to contact the school to advocate for them EVERY YEAR because the law says observing a religious holiday means they should not be penalized.

Spring break needs to be the same as the surrounding areas. Too confusing to have an entire week not aligning.

I think they determined a few years ago that 2 week Christmas break was going to stay for good.

Totally agree, and also we need to push winter break to be literally half-way through the school year. It doesn't make sense to have a two week break in the middle of the second quarter, it needs to be at the end of the second quarter. Christians can take Christmas off as an excused absence like other religious groups do.

But I agree with spring break being a set week every year like they do in the midwest. It's so stupid to move it just because of Easter every year. If we're removing other religions' holidays then also let's remove spring break being tied to Easter. Nobody travels for Easter, they travel for spring break.

Amen!

I much prefer having spring break at a set time each year.

+1, and I'm Christian. Just get Loudon and APS on board.

I want a set spring break but second week of March is too early. I’d prefer last week in March or first week in April.

Is there a final calendar?
