FCPS Calendar C Option?

Same with Arlington. If I remember correctly, many of the calendar changes implemented for APS were so that it could align with the FCPS calendar.

The presentation actually has check marks showing who has what holidays. After all the arguments FOR including those holidays, then they abruptly have option C.

I think option C is based on the survey, which basically had the majority of respondants wanting to have as many days off as possible and end as early as possible. Not sure how those two go together, unless FCPS gives back some of the 20 snow days that the 990 hours requirement builds in.

The presentation says the actual decision is (I wish I were joking) TBD.

Thanks. I live in Fairfax but work in APS. I’ll apply to FCPS if they change to C. I can’t have a different spring break than my kids.

I really do not want spring break continually in March. If it aligns with Easter, fine, but not every year. The weather is terrible and many spring/summer destination places are not open yet. Is there a place we can speak on this?

They can’t do this. There are no extra days to give back. The extra time is in hours, not actual dates on the calendar.

To maximize teachers for FCPS, FCPS should align with Loudoun and APS on this.

Isn’t this decision being made later than they have in recent years? I thought the goal was to decide the calendar more than a year in advance.

The extra built in snow days are BS. They now count time kids are on buses or waiting for buses, or in transition between classes as instructional time.

Calendar C is dead in the water because of the issues with teachers working in different counties than their kids go to school in.

Is this what the SB members were saying in the meeting? Or just a good guess?

Did calendar C pass?

No. They aren't voting on a calendar yet. They want to collect more data.

I emailed them in support of it, if not this year (staffing), then a big northern Virginia shift TO it next year, in coordination with surrounding districts.

I agree.

Put spring break a little later like the first week of April.

Better weather.

Not clumped up to all the January through February holidays and snow days.

Agree. APS's calendar specifically aligns with what FCPS proposed. They even added in the 4 holidays. I though FCPS already voted on this long ago - I was surprised it was just being voted on now.

I also thought it was already decided.
