Seneca Valley Boundary Study

$150 million.

The new Seneca Valley High School is a new building. The old building was in terrible condition. It needed to be repaired or replaced. So they decided that it was most cost-effective to replace it - and while they were at it, expand it to add capacity in Germantown and Clarksburg. And I agree with them. Do you disagree?

Also, where do you propose putting this new high school in Clarksburg?

Oh, I don't know... maybe expand CES, and instead of building Cabin branch ES, build Cabin Branch HS. We don't need a 4 floor, 2500 capacity HS here.

No, you don't know. The Cabin Branch ES site is 9.71 acres. B-CC, which is the smallest high school site in MCPS, is 16.36 acres. For comparison, Seneca Valley is on 29.37 acres, Clarksburg HS is on 62.7 acres (but some of that is forest conservation easement), Northwest HS is on 34.56 acres, and Damascus HS is on 32.65 acres. MCPS says they want 35 acres for a high school, 15.5 acres for a middle school, and 7.5 acres for an elementary school.

Those are good rules
Do people think of this after an area becomes densely populated or after?
Has anyone heard of town planning!!

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

They did plan. They planned a high school in Clarksburg (Clarksburg High School) with room for expansion, plus 5 elementary schools (Little Bennett, Gibbs, Wilson Wims, Snowden Farm, and now the one at Cabin Branch), and 2 middle schools (Rocky Hill and Hallie Wells). And they planned to expand high school capacity by adding on at Seneca Valley. You just don't like that plan.

NP here. Yes, that plan sucks. You know why? Because that plan still leaves CHS at overcapacity with no relief in the foreseeable future. CHS can no longer be expanded so that's it for Clarksburg.

I don't have much sympathy for foot-stomping from Clarksburg parents here. Either you knew the plan when you moved to Clarksburg. Or, if you didn't know the plan, that's on you.

Don't need your sympathy Ms. Judgy, but FYI many of us moved here after the plan was announced.

So how do you go around saying it's on the Clarksburg families for not knowing about a plan that hasn't been crafted nor made public?

Which is it - did you move here AFTER the plan was announced, or BEFORE the plan was announced?

And by plan, I mean the 1994 Clarksburg master plan.

http://www.montgomeryplanning.org/community/plan_areas/rural_area/master_plans/clarksburg/toc_clark.shtm

See Chapter 7 on schools. It plans for 11 public schools total (existing + new) for Clarksburg, including 1 new high school (that's Clarksburg High School), 2 new middle schools (that's Rocky Hill and Hallie Wells), and 6 new elementary schools (they've built 3 (Little Bennett, Wims, Snowden Farm)and are working on the fourth (Cabin Branch)). The other 2 elementary school sites in the plan are are (1) on the south side of West Old Baltimore at the edge of the stream valley, next to Summerfield Crossing, and (2) something near Ridge Rd north of Brink Rd.

There's 45 acres for sale on Piedmont in Clarksburg. Sounds like enough space for a new HS.

A perfect location, aside from

1. it's agricultural land in the Agricultural Reserve
2. it's hard to have a high school on well and septic
3. 12 acres are in forest conservation easement
4. nobody could walk to it

And you live in Clarksburg and are not opposed to sending your child to SVHS?
