GDS Student Newspaper posts about the horrible incident

Most schools in DC are considered extraordinary by any reasonable measure and 99% of parents nationally would love to send their kids there.

Schools are dumped on for all kinds of reason, some valid, the vast majority not. There is no shortage of parents who will “hate” a school because their kid didn’t get in, because their kid didn’t do well, because they think $12,000 tuition at a small Catholic school in Alexandria should buy them Titanium status on directory delivery, because they are batsh*t and think that Epstein was the HoS at GDS. Just ignore it.

For goodness sake, view DCUM for entertainment purposes only.

Good luck to all today.

Great blog post but no mention of best practices in how schools respond to sexual assaults on campus or the response in this case.

Any updates from GDS parents?

Russell pontificating re: best practices with lots of empathy for kids anxious about grades, yet so little for a child who says he was sexually assaulted. Not even providing a redacted report to the family. The tenor of the school communications was to shame and silence around the topic. What messages have other kids and families taken away about that?!! 🤐😳😱

Trying to minimize and deflect from the sexual assault of a child is what you're doing and it's unacceptable. I'm convinced that your work for GDS.

If you don’t have a kid at GDS, I’m not sure why you care so much about how the school responds to a particular issue. I have multiple kids at the school and while I think the school could I’ve been more transparent in their handling the issue, ultimately I know enough about the situation to feel completely confident that the investigation done was sufficient and kids are not at risk.

This is already in the works with several families

Kudos for a principled response, and best of luck to families now looking for a safe place for their children!

Are there any schools inside DC that are worth considering now? Public or private

Sidwell is amazing from what I hear.

You have misconstrued my post. Why I was pointing out is that obsessed, conspiracy-spreading nutters that accuse a school of nefarious behavior without evidence is just one more rabbit hole on DCUM. Every single school has had threads lambasting aspects of its leadership over the previous months and years. That doesn’t make the insane people correct nor the schools bad, guilty or complicit. This poster is just one more nutter who presumably doesn’t even have kids at the school (and if they do, they obviously should be pulling them out).

DC independent schools are great. Not perfect, but great. Ignore the noise.

This is a bad faith post. Nothing bring said here is a conspiracy. It's based on things that can be easily found on Google. Please stop acting in bad faith and defending the indefensible.

Yep, they're using a crisis PR firm. If you're a middle school parent please talk to other parents. This isn't the only issue with GDS when it comes to student safety and admin misconduct

I suspect at least ten families will be leaving because of this.

I suspect you’re wrong.

Are they paying for PR on the weekends now. Did you get the email from other middle school parents? I suspect Russ won't make it to the end of the year.

He was planning to leave already so that doesn’t seem like much of a consequence?

It is sad that a traumatized family has to consider suing to get a copy of the report.
