Apparently Joan wanted to return, and the producers agreed, but then her daughter then had a downturn. https://www.thewrap.com/the-golden-bachelor-joan-vassos-women-tell-all-interview-abc/

That doesn't mean Joan couldn't come back at the very end, though. But if that happens, will we get to see a scene where Gerry and Jesse sit down over coffee or old fashioneds and Jesse says, hey, Joan is still interested, how about it?

I know the daughter was vulnerable, but wow, I would have a hard time not resenting her for this. I mean she seemed to have the best connection with Gerry of anyone. I guess the daughter was struggling with postpartum? So strange.

You sound like a horrible parent. When your child is threatening to kill herself or hurt her child, you put the child/grandchild first and don't look back.

First of all, I'm not a parent. I'm actually a young person, around her daughter's age, and truly it would be unfathomable to me to ruin my mom's opportunity at something like this because I was feeling depressed or whatever. Many people dont even have parents theyre close to and have to find ways to get through these situations on their own. I'm not trying to be judgmental, it just seems very crazy to me. If my mom were on a show like this I would be thrilled and not ever want her to leave to come help ME. That's just how I see it.

DP / I must say your concern for your mom’s happiness is refreshing. 😄

As a mother and sister/ friend to women who have suffered severe post partum depression, I can assure you that I, and probably many mothers, would have also chosen to be there for their daughters. Post partum depression is extremely serious and common.

I'm actually not super close to my mom, as in we dont really talk. But that's the thing- there are plenty of hard life events that happen and you just have to deal with them. As someone who doesnt have the luxury of calling mom up whenever life gets rough, I just think it's crazy that her mom had to leave the reality show for what sounds like a bout of depression. I mean... maybe it's my own experience but sometimes you just have to handle stuff on your own. Mom's opportunity of a lifetime is ruined because her daughter was having a sad few weeks? I just dont get any of it.

The fact that people of the PPs generation think of appearing on a reality dating show as a life pinnacle is so sad. As a parent, I cannot imagine remaining on a silly reality tv dating show while my daughter was struggling with PPD. I’m sorry that you don’t have a parent that would show up for you in that way, but that is not the norm.

But it's objectively a life peak? I mean, maybe it's because you are so much older, but appearing on a reality show like this can guarantee someone millions of followers and a new career as an influencer. Especially for someone of Joan's age, that's absolutely huge. There are many of us who arent close to our parents, or dont have parents, or are living far away from their parents and cant have them fly to them in a couple days. I mean... life is hard. Thats why it seems a bit strange to me. I do hope Joan is able to still make some kind of career off this since it's been largely taken from her.

I can’t imagine a 60 year old woman with an already existing career thinking that having millions of followers and becoming an influencer is more important than their child and grandchild. Maybe it’s because you are so much younger that you don’t understand that women 60+ have not lived their lives in pursuit of followers and influencing. It just not that important to that generation, and honestly it really shouldn’t be to yours, but I understand that it is.

That's probably true, and frankly many women over 60 just dont have the insight or mentality to know how to monetize a massive following. But the fact is, it is an incredible platform and powerful moneymaking opportnity, which must be attractive for someone approaching retirement age anyway. Oh well, she didn't have the insight to see that. That's why older people miss many opportunities, but such is life...

My guess is the latter. Probably an agreement that producers approve/guide Gerry-related posts.

What is the market and platform for a 60 year old influencer, her peers are generally not engaged in social media for that purpose so who exactly would she be getting paid a ton of money to influence?

Most reality show contestants never monetize much, despite trying to do so. I recently saw an article about cooking shows, sorry, can’t find it. And what would a 60-something monetize anyway? Start a makeup line? Lifestyle? She’d be taking to a much smaller pop segment who cares about a sixty-something’s lifestyle. Maybe AARP spokeswoman.

Maybe they also have the life wisdom to understand that having every private aspect of your life being commercialized and consumed online for entertainment is simply not worth the lack of privacy.

Many social media influencers have high rates of mental illness and are not happy. I have known quite a number through my DC. They also have trouble finding stable loving relationships based on who they really are.

This entire show has me in my “don’t believe my eyes nor ears”. Gerry was definitely a doozy but it feels so on par for men— blowing hot air right down to tears but running into the arms of his many women who adore him. Who can trust a man after seeing this. He’s got one foot in the grave - I don’t get it

Sorry, but I hope she does and decides to leave her poor face alone. I honestly can't believe what she's done to it. She is a very beautiful woman who for some reason has chosen to make herself far less so. I hope someone can persuade her to accept a few wrinkles and love herself in a more natural form. Because there's so much to love! I don't really care about Leslie or Theresa. Theresa seems like a nice, bland lady who would mostly be a good fit for nice, bland Gerry. Leslie is looking for a running partner, and that's not Gerry, who had to switch to walking due to age issues. They're not that far in age, but her spirit and physique seem much younger. She can find a better match.

When you put yourself on national tv shows, you do tend to open yourself up to being discussed by national audiences. That's par for the course. No one has said that Joan is a horrible person. But, our eyes tell us something is wrong with her face. If it was a congenital defect, then we would all leave it alone. But, those who have knowledge of plastic surgery have identified it as either too much face stretching (face lift) or too much botox. Those are choices she made. It is unfortunate that she made those choices. She seems like a nice person, but if she wants to be on tv longer (like Golden Bachelorette), we have a right to voice our opinion on not seeing that facial situation any more.

Especially if you're thinking (with no evidence whatsoever) that voicing your opinion on DCUM will persuade the producers to give the Golden Bachelorette to Leslie instead.

Which is why it all seems so nasty. Nobody who matters is reading your opinion. Just, very possibly, Joan herself is reading your posts. So most likely, you're directing all these ugly comments to a single individual.

-- No, I don't know Joan, I've never met her, and I've never even seen her on the street AFAIK

Hyperbole much?

What has been said is that her face does not move. (that is an observable fact -- not subjective or personally derogatory).
What else has been said: the non-movable face is likely the result of plastic surgery or botox treatments. (also not a personal attack).
What else has been said: we don't want to watch a lead whose face does not move. (personal opinions that are not direct attacks on the owner of the non-moving face).

I don't see any of these things as "ugly" attacks.

Well, by your standards many of us have “one foot in the grave.”
