Rescue by media—school opening

Instead of writing the Governors, the School Board members, the Teachers Union, the various Superindendents, can we collectively ask the media for some help? Can we email publications, major channel news desks, CNN, FOX, heck even OAN if it helps, and create the frenzy that is needed to move the needle to bring us back to schools? It may be our only hope at this point! Let’s send those letters to the media (education desk), name some names, and organize and plead for media to cover this story every single day.

I will say this— FCPS listened to the loudest voice in the room. And they listen twice as hard if that voice is amplified by the WaPo.

Fairfax County made the national news (again). My brother called me, furious on our behalf. He said, "Teachers want every teacher and child to be vaccinated before going back to school?!? They want 0 transmission for 14 days?!? That's insane!" and "If teachers get vaccinated and don't go back to school, they are taking someone else's spot and possibly killing someone."

I agreed with him. That's exactly right.

FCPS has already made national attention for the failure rates.

They have done nothing to disprove their incompetence.

Why are you so unable to realize that there are groups on both sides of this issue. Both of you have been screaming and whining at elected officials and the media this whole time. Your message is clear. So is theirs. Most of us are in the middle and wish you all would behave with more civility and respect. Stop the screaming.

Depends on the news outlets. Getting networks, CNN or WaPo to cover it would be good. Fox News...not as effective.

OpenFCPS was recently on Fox News. I would never have seen it unless someone sent the video to me.

The media is not really interested in this story because we're not the only county in the country that is still virtual. There's about 50 plus counties that have been virtual since March. Fairfax County is not exactly riveting news.

Here’s what the WaPo should cover: Brabrand has botched reopening so badly, starting with the initial hybrid plan he couldn’t pull off and going downhill from there. And yet he gets his contract renewed, with a raise ina year teachers are frozen. How does that happen. He can’t open one of the wealthiest districts in the nation when rates are low, and he gets renewed with a raise.

I’d read that piece, because I still don’t get it.

I beg to differ! I think the media is ripe for a “cause” ... now that Trump is out of office. They need a bad guy ... can’t we flip the script and point towards the weak Governors, board members, superintendents for not having a backbone to stand up to the unions. I think it’s totally possible. Especially when there’s study after study to support our cause. Media needs a new Gillian. Let’s give it to them people.

The problem is that cnn & nytimes extreme covid hysteria are why we are in this mess. Meanwhile schools in red areas are totally open. I don’t see this ever ending with various variants etc. Time to move.
