| DH and I ordered sushi from our favorite place last night and both woke up at 1am with sharp jagged cramps. We have both been in separate bathrooms since then. I think the worst is behind me (no pun intended), but I feel like a wet noodle. I spent two hours literally curled next to the shower. I am looking to commiserate about other horror stories so please share here. It will offer me some diversion as I am useless all day in front of DCUM. |
Nothing to share, but make sure you: a) contact the restauran b) contact the relevant health department and file a report Don't just blow it off as a fluke and vow to never eat there again. It could have been a one-off accident, or it could be that there is a serious problem at the restaurant. Either way, it should be checked out. |
| Same thing, but it was grocery store sushi years ago. We both woke up with it coming out uncontrollably (in every conceivable way). The next day was awful. We had a very young toddler at the time, so getting through that day was an exercise in sheer willpower. |
I think fluke is a weird term to use here, in case she has an intestinal fluke from eating raw fish. |
This happened to us in Puerto Rico with a three-year-old. We were crapping and vomiting non-stop while he wanted to go to pool and waterslides. It was horrific, and the convenience store at the resort had nothing but tiny packets of Pepto Bismol. We left the maid a large tip. |

2 years ago, travelled to the west coast for a family/friends gathering. It was a quick trip, I was supposed to fly back the next morning. Something that was served at the party, though, was .... not right. Comparing notes the next day, we think it was the cream sauce served with one of the dishes. Several of us were up all night. I spent most of the night on the bathroom floor, even after my stomach was completely empty I was dry-heaving and cramping for hours.
There was no way I could get on the airplane the next morning. I ended up changing my flight and taking an extra day off work to stay out there. By that evening I felt completely fine. 36 hours after The Event, I was on a plane home feeling perfectly normal. It's intense, but normally doesn't last long. I hope you are feeling better soon! |

The rice is actually the most likely culprit, not the fish. It’s one of the most common sources of food poisoning, and is generally easily characterized by the quick and severe onset like you experienced.
I would certainly advise your local health authority, as it may mean the place isn’t storing properly, especially if they are less busy with COVID. start hydrating as much as you can - slow sips of cool or room temperature water or electrolyte solution (you can dilute Gatorade if you have it, but it has a lot of fructose and that can cause further misery in some people). Watch your symptoms, and go get looked at further if you develop bloody diarrhea, dehydration, fever or muscle cramps, or are unable to even keep sips down. |
| In Mexico, where I was living. I spent 5 days in the hospital and the Bacterial infection I got from eating something infected my appendix so I had an appendectomy 2.5 days after I was admitted. |
| My mom has a good creepy one about how my grandma stopped reading fortunes in coffee grounds after she tried to read a friend's, was like "weird, I don't see anything about your future here," and the friend died of some kind of poisoning (maybe botulism?) from home-canned food a few days later. Between the coffee grounds and the food item, this is the most Middle Eastern story ever. |
PS OP obviously your situation is different or i wouldn't have shared! Hope you feel better soon. |
| Ten years ago, had a steak from outback.brought my dog home the bone and leftovers. Hours later, wake up to the dog crapping uncontrollably and then I started soon after. Cleaning up dog diarrhea while also shitting and puking your brains out is not the best. Good luck, OP |
| Near miss: went out for dinner with my boyfriend and a couple he knew. The woman ordered a seafood soup. Next day we heard she got so violently sick she had been admitted to the hospital. |

Years ago had fried rice from Chinese takeout in Adams Morgan. Omg, I spent 24 his in the bathroom and promised myself I would never eat food again.
After a day of sore stomach muscles from all the action, I was fine |
| No one from eating at someone's home that has a cat? |

I tend to get bad pins and needles stomach aches and diarrhea from food poisoning. Once I vomit, if I do, the pain often stops and it’s over.
My NORO story sounds similar to the above stories. Husband out of town. My preschooler left playing downstairs for hours while I call a friend to ask for checkins in case I die or pass out and alternating expulsion from both ends on the toilet every few seconds and lying on the bathroom floor. |
