We assumed it was Saturday nights dinner. Until we got a call from the couple who hosted the Friday night party to ask if we were ok. At least 80% of the attendees were sick. We got a call from the heath department wanting every detail of what we ate and drank, right down to the butter for the bread.

Did the health dept figure out which dish it was that made you sick?

I recommend reading this. Many of you will realize that you don't actually know what made you sick. Most people assume it's the last thing that they ate, but it often isn't. That's why it can be quite hard to track foodborne illness.

(frozen pizza, PP? Not likely)

Thank you!

My DH and I got sick the day after Christmas one year. We had family visiting, kids, friends with us the night before... and only he and I got sick. We deduced that the only shared food item between us that no one else had was a sandwich from a Quiznos or similar on a drive 3 or 4 days earlier. Everything else, including much more likely culprits, had been shared by many others, none of whom were sick.

Anonymous wrote:This isn’t food poisoning per se, but noro from food. Went to an annual Christmas/birthday party at a friend’s. They actually warned people that the guy host & kid got some kind of stomach thing from our-of-town visiting friend’s kid, but were recovering. Pretty much everyone (100-150 people?) came anyway. By the time the party started, girl host was upstairs too ill to even give toast for husband’s birthday. Everyone had a fantastic time. 75% of the party got super sick. I was vomiting for 48 hours and felt ill for 2 days after that. Common thread was folks who ate the incredible dessert spread girl host made while she obviously had noro but didn’t know yet. Lots of pretty high level DOJ folks and some State Department people there. A week later Hilary Clinton got noro, as did a bunch of her aides, and fell and got the blood clot we all heard about for half of 2016. We basically blame our friends for Trump’s victory. (Everybody went back to the party the next year(s) though. They are great people and fabulous hosts. They really may have given Hilary noro though.)

Wait! Is this party called a play on the guy’s name? If so, I was there too! That is the sickest I have been in my life. Also, I was at a dinner party with folks a few weeks later where we mapped out exactly how Hillary could have gotten the stomach bug from that party and there were two different plausible roots. Given that like 200 DOJ employees and 50 State employees got it, I think it’s pretty plausible that’s how she got it too. There was a straight line from that party to our future National Security Advisor, in fact...

Anonymous wrote:Went to a wedding in LA. DH got sick on something-no idea what as he ate everything. We had volunteered to help out a lot so now I was driving around in LA (sucks/don't know it) and doing all the tasks the next day while DH stayed at the hotel. We started to hear others were sick but no one wanted to upset the happy couple.

Then we get to the airport and on the flight we were seated separately. I asked the other passengers next to DH if I could switch and they could sit at the front. All said no- though they weren't traveling together. I made a point of advising that he had been really sick and I just wanted to be sure I was there in case he needed help. They kind of ignored us/blew us off and DH proceeded to projectile vomit all over the three people who would not move for the rest of the lengthy and turbulent flight. We still cringe/LOL at that.

🤣

Hahahaha!!! Karma.

When I was in college, there was a special dinner. I went. I ate. I then got extremely sick— from both ends. I wasn’t sure if it was food poisoning, toxic shock syndrome, or something else. The procedure for accessing health services was to call the campus police to get a ride to the clinic. I was so sick that I couldn’t imagine getting dressed, waiting for the police to pick me up, or managing the ride to the health center — when I was running to the bathroom for one reason or another quite frequently, and feeling miserable.

That was my first and last time eating trout. Decades later I inadvertently tasted some smoked trout without realizing what it was. I immediately felt queasy, and unobtrusively got rid of it.

If they did they never followed up with us to tell us. It was a seafood heavy meal but I'm a vegetarian so I think I are like bread and rice and salad. The cross contamination must have been pretty serious.

^^Rice is a common source of food poisoning.

I’ve posted about this on another thread, but my former MIL food poisoned everyone. I was pregnant and threw up immediately. Then, because I was the low status DIL from the “wrong” SES, religion, and race, I was mocked as being overly dramatic and they kept eating. I went home and they all ended up in the ER.

Anonymous wrote:I got food poisoning at in-office interview during law school. We were at the tail end of lunch at a very upscale restaurant when it hit so I'm assuming it's whatever I ate at the hotel that morning for breakfast, which I don't even remember. It was so awful. The associates were lingering and chatting, while I started sweating and went to the bathroom for a couple extended visits. Then we went BACK to the office for my final interviews. At the first one I said I had to use the bathroom and basically exploded once I got in there. Was completely horrified to come out of the women's room and find my male interviewer standing there waiting for me. I can't even imagine what he heard. I made some apologies to cut the interviews short and went back to spend the night in my hotel bathroom. It sucked because I had dinner plans with a friend in that city and had to beg off. I remember she made some suggestions (maybe just soup?) but I had stuff coming out both ends by that point so anything was out of the question.

So did you get the job?

I did get the offer but didn't take the job. Getting the offer had more to do with where I went to law school rather than anything I did or didn't do during the interview (since I didn't even finish the interviews!) I think it's more likely I got sick from breakfast but I do wonder if it was the upscale restaurant.

I planned a trip to Denali National Park a few years ago. Went to a spin class earlier in the the day before my flight left and left 10 min early because I felt funny. Ignored it thinking it was nerves--it was a big trip with lots of pieces that had to fall into place in order for it to work. Long story short, I spent the entire flight between Seattle and Anchorage throwing up. It got to the point where holding my bag of vomit was making me vomit. I was SO GLAD I booked a bulkhead aisle seat so there was nothing in front of me; but I destroyed the first class bathroom. Puke---wipe wipe wipe the splashes, puke again, wipe wipe wipe. It was actually better to puke into the bag.

Flight landed in Anchorage at midnight and I went to my hotel to sleep a few hours before catching my bus to Anchorage. I ended up not camping at Wonderland like I had intended--it required a full day bus ride on a bumpy gravel road, and was able to change my reservation to the campsite with the store and showers. Ate nothing that I brought--just drank iced tea from the store, but met some truly fascinating people on that trip and still had a very great time. It was the end of the season and really cold though!

Bumping this. I experienced the same experience as many in this one last night. Ate 3 day old brisket, heated it up. Hours later, I’m on the floor of the shower with things coming from both ends. It wasn’t pretty. A day later and I’m stilll outta it. Trying to figure out what to do

Maybe there’s something going around? I woke up this morning with it coming out both ends. Hours later and I still feel awful. I can manage water but no food. I also have body aches, but no fever.

NP here. I don't understand it but from the time I was a kid, frozen pizza with sausage on it would make me puke. Every time.
