Does your teen/family have regular first thing in the morning bowel movements?

I was wondering if it would be good to have a consistent bowel movements first thing in the morning. Both spouse and I have bowel movements very first thing in the morning. Not so for our child and while he goes everyday, it is at different times of the day.

Just wondering if that is common or if it would be better to develop a habit of going first thing in the morning. Thoughts?

Who monitor's their teen's BM?

I have three teens, and this is nowhere near my radar. They can manage their own poop schedule.

I think a teen is having some fun with DCUM.

Pediatrician here. Yes, my spouse and I both do this as part of our healthy habits. Morning BM is typical due to the gastro-colic reflex. Im pretty sure my teens don’t have the same routine but I’m not going to stress about it.

How exactly are you going to make this happen?

Why are you worried about this? You seem pretty anal.

You can NOT be this controlling.

Maybe I"ve made it to age 49 without knowing this...but how does one "develop a habit"? Don't you rely on feeling like you need to? I mean you can't really accelerate peristalsis in the gut just by sheer willpower. Or...can you??

people are weird.

I will say that my DH told me his mother used to make him have a BM every morning. Talk about traumatizing!

I go every morning like clockwork. I drink two cups of coffee and I'm practically running to the bathroom. It's a nice perfect poop!

I have no idea and if I asked my teen this, he would LOL and probably refuse to tell me. Then he would spend the next few weeks and months asking me about my BMs just to tease me about how lame that question is.

My habits ... regularized ... during the latter years of college. This might be a maturational thing that you can’t rush.

Yes, this thread is hilarious and I cannot wait to see what the rest of it has in store. With that said, I can say that I actually did have a conversation in which I encouraged my teen to possibly employ some habits that may make this a regular thing in the morning. But, it was in response to issues that she was having, mainly, that she's an athlete and this fall, she was constantly having to go urgently in the middle of a tournament. It would start with stomach pain in the middle of a game, then running to the porta potty in between games. It was stressful for her, so we talked about things like a big glass of warm water with lemon first thing in the morning to see if she couldn't take care of it in advance to avoid this. Would I ever have had such a conversation just to have my teens join me in my regular morning BM? Hell no. This particular conversation was a little amusing, but I will say, the very next weekend, she was pretty excited that she felt much better going into the tournament. Just saying.
