Ah yes, I keep forgetting how fairly Israel has treated Arabs and Muslims in the past. Like citizens with equal rights.

You are clearly white. I read a lot of news from Latin America and the newspapers do not read like here. And the VAST majority of supporters of Palestinian rights are Arabs, Muslims, and POC - not white folks. IF there were more white people, the needle may move in favor but it has not. I don't think you know much about the movement at all. Question, do you have an Arab or Muslim friends? Friends with any latinos?

And yes, India has long been anti-Muslim. I mean, Modi. Come on. It's also why so many Indians voted Trump. Or did you not know there was an India-Pakistan rift?

Yes, actually most of my friends are Canadian Muslims. They certainly aren't pro-Israel but considering that they fled from countries like Iran and Pakistan, they ultimately prefer a world where Israel wins this battle. The people I know who are pro-Palestine are all Canadian-born queer and non-binary whites. My Latino friends who are interested in the conflict are mixed, but most are focused on their own issues.

This is the sick part--the Palestinian/Hamas shills on this site are GLAD that the hospital was struck, b/c it creates a propaganda opportunities for them.

They want to inflame the situation, incite more terror attacks against Israel (and possibly the US), and destabilize the ME.

And why are you so insistent that a rocket struck the hospital when there is no such evidence. No I don’t believe Biden’s ‘other team’ statement while he sits right next to Netanyahu in Israel while being subbed by the Arab leaders. No we have yet to see any conclusive evidence that it was a rocket from within Gaza. We have no reason to wish for thousands of civilians to be killed by Israel because 4000 civilians, most of them bring women and children have already been killed by Israel. Don’t worry Israel is doing a great job ‘defending’ itself by taking the lives of innocent children….you know the children of darkness as Netanyahu said in his tweet….apparently Israeli children are children of light and Palestinian children are children of darkness…..this guy’s evilness knows no bounds.

So what is YOUR goal other than to spread Israeli propaganda spearheaded by Netanyahu who has a big contributing role to play in the current situation.

Listen. We can literally see the hospital now. There is extensive video. But the frantic PPs keep repeating what are now obvious lies about mass casualties. Looking at the pictures, it seems likely that people did die, but certainly not the many hundreds you keep claiming. It’s hard for anyone who is trying in good faith to get to the facts to take you seriously when you are sounding increasingly crazy in the view of hard evidence.

Can you someone explain to me Israelis bulldozing Palestinian homes? What is the criteria for doing this? Punishing an entire family for one person’s actions sounds like the antithesis of democracy to me. When an Israeli Jew commits a crime, does the government also bulldoze their family home?

DP. I follow Latin American news in Spanish and I disagree with your characterization entirely. There is simply not this universal support for Palestinians in Latin America that you are implying. In fact there is a great deal of distrust because of historic religious tension. Of course there is distrust of Israel too. But your characterization here is both inaccurate and misleading.

there is nothing misleading about the statement. I said that the "newspapers do not read like here", which is 100% on point. Folha de São Paulo has given far more even handed reporting than anything in US media. There were fights in the Brazilian parliament yesterday over the hospital bombings, and Lula has long been a supporter of Palestinian rights. Of course, Argentina is very pro-Israel because of the large Jewish population but other countries have been in firm Palestinian camps. You must not read enough because Colombia has now threatened to eject all Israeli diplomats, with Ecuador looking to condemn the same. VZ is clearly not a fan of Israel and Bolivia has followed suit.

I have no idea what you are reading in Latin America but you clearly aren't up to speed.

It does not comport with the visible damage at the site. No doubt there were some casualties but what's to say they didn't throw together some bundles of blankets along with a few bodies from the morgue to create some theater? Again, IT DOES NOT COMPORT WITH THE VISIBLE DAMAGE.

and there we have it. Stop pretending. Pro-Apartheid folks believe that if you tell someone before you kill them its fine. Because hospitals are easy to evacuate? So if I tell you before I bomb your house, we're cool, right?

There is no where to go in the Gaza Ghetto. This is the refugee in the evacuation zone.

Hamas figured how to massacre Israelis. They could have figured out how to help their fellow Palestinians evacuate. It’s not like they didn’t know what was going to happen.

Hamas is a terrorist organization. They don’t care about anyone, including Palestinian civilians. Some of us expect the Israeli government, which is an established state and a beneficiary of massive U.S. foreign and military aid, to behave better and with more respect for innocent life than a literal terrorist organization.

Agree. It's time to turn off the money spigot to Israel. Biden needs to wise up. He's pissing off lifelong Dems like me. I might not bring myself to vote for the Republican candidate but I'd stay home or vote for a 3rd candidate. Continuing with blind support of Israel is dangerous.

India? Seriously? The nation where the caste system is alive and thriving. Where 50% of the population is living in dire poverty and 50% of the children are severely malnourished. They need to fix their own problems before they jump on the Israeli bandwagon. And yes the current Indian government is vehemently against Muslims so for them this is purely a religious war and if Israel is taking down Muslims, they are indeed very happy.

You could say the same things about the countries supporting Palestine.

jsteele wrote:For the two or three people who care, here is my current take on the bombing.

1) As of right now, it seems that almost everything that was first reported may have been wrong. It seems the hospital itself was not hit, the explosion was not as big as we thought, and I am not even sure of the casualty count.

2) Both sides have spread so much disinformation that I am not willing to believe either Israel or Hamas. For Israel's part, Netanyahu's digital media guy first bragged that Israel had killed many terrorists with the bombing and then removed the tweet. Official Israeli accounts published videos that were debunked and then removed. But, frankly, this could easily be explained by incompetence as easily as by malice. As the hundreds of thousands of Israelis who have been protesting have been trying to tell us, the Netanyahu government consists of some of the least capable people in the country.

3) It may just be me, but my understanding of the audio of the telephone call by Palestine Islamic Jihad members contradicts the videos that everyone is using to prove that the missile was from PIJ. The guys on the call say the rocket came from a cemetery behind the hospital but the videos appear — at least to me — to show rockets come from quite a ways away. So, even this evidence should be considered skeptically.

4) Biden has shown himself to get ahead of his skis with information that he announces. But, I have to think that he wouldn't comment on this without fairly solid information. As a result, I assume that the US intelligence assessment is that this was a misfired rocket.

The result of this is that I am not completely sure what to think but as of this moment I'm leaning towards a rocket misfire. Sadly, facts are of little importance in this war.

This deserves to be bumped and highlighted.

And most of them aren't even Israeli. They're weirdos from New York.

I know a settler who was born in England to evangelical wackos who converted to Judaism. Dude doesn't even speak a word of English.

The settlers are as big a problem as Hamas. The difference is that most Jews and Israelis acknowledge this.

But who is doing the bulldozing? It’s not some extremist settlers, it’s government sanctioned. It’s funny how when the Israelis do something disturbing, defenders jump to pretend it’s just a tiny group doing this…yet, the tiny group seems to be operating with the force of the government backing it up.

They were given repeated warnings to evacuate.

and there we have it. Stop pretending. Pro-Apartheid folks believe that if you tell someone before you kill them its fine. Because hospitals are easy to evacuate? So if I tell you before I bomb your house, we're cool, right?

Hamas figured how to massacre Israelis. They could have figured out how to help their fellow Palestinians evacuate. It’s not like they didn’t know what was going to happen.

As someone who stayed at work at a New Orleans hospital during Katrina, STFU. You have NO idea how nearly impossible and downright dangerous it is to move some patients.

Tough luck.

So just kill them and the medical staff who are caring for them, right? And you wonder why some of us think the IDF is barbaric.

They didn’t start this.

Punishing an entire family for one person’s actions sounds like the antithesis of democracy to me. When an Israeli Jew commits a crime, does the government also bulldoze their family home?

The settlers are crazy. Most Israelis hate them.

The settlers are not crazy - that's what Israelis say to deflect from the fact that this is a territory expansion scheme - it's Israel's version of Manifest Destiny - one plat at a time. The settlers are supported by Israel's Prime Minister Bibi who promised during his most recent election campaign to annex the West Bank so Israelis could build ADDITIONAL homes on Palestinan land. Pro-Israel folks know the Israeli government has don't nothing to stop the outright theft of Palestinian land or the killing of innocent, unarmed West Bank civilians.
