In every once in a while and say hello.

Many pages have gone by and don’t want/care to read it all but noticed a few people or one? Twisting what I’m saying.

So I’ll say it slower.

My friend ECNL Director girls/boys club as well as another buddy works for usclub helping oversee one of the big SoCal soccer leagues.

Has told me what ECNL/RL, MLSN, GA and even big non league college showcases like surf cup are considering is allowing players who are age eligible for U18 ONLY so that would be for players in 25/26 born between Aug-Dec 2008/ Jan-July 2009.
If you fall into this group and are a junior you would be eligible to attend showcases for U17 if you’re a senior you should play showcase matches with U19.

So yes there is the potential for an age difference of 23 months for U17 just like there will be for U19 as the current chart would be Aug 2007-July 2009. Al’s 23 months.

The rationale is at the highest level of youth competition this should not affect player ability as most players have reached growth spurts and such at this point.

It is strongly being considered to start next year and would just be involved within each league or tournament rule book.

It may get tabled until 27/28 to allow for a year for the dust to settle with new age group changes.

This makes sense because any player who’s actually able to play D1/2 would have no problem competing with older players. Also aligns better for college recruiting for showcases without effecting younger players.
Agree, makes a lot of sense and will help recruiting with a good challenge for the best players who will have to play with older players shortly anyway and will be judges against older transfers and foreign recruits while not causing other problems.

No it willl encourage parents to hold their kids back in school. Which is somthing nobody wants to be part of.

Imagine paying your club for multiple years. Then surprise! We're going to replace your kid at showcases so an older player can look good playjng against younger players

Won’t encourage holdbacks as players still have to meet the age eligibility window for U18. Don’t see girls getting held back either. If anything more start school a year or so early.

Players with Jan to July bdays during BY could have been held back this whole time as u19 has always been outside the 12 month age window. This will just extend to U17. If your kid is actually good don’t worry about it. The only parents complaining are the ones losing their spot which they are replaced by a mother kid so it all equals out for the clubs bottom line.

Ahh no.

All clubs have done is replace a paying customer for an unknown that may or may not pay.

Very poor business decision.
Nah, kids get replaced by better players all the time on the roster or starting lineup. College soccer payoff is well below the effort of the small advantage of being held back.

Your fears are your anxiety not a prophecy for the a negative outcome that will not come to fruition.

What you dont understand is that playdowns dont pay.
Rubbish, there are no play downs because the oldest showcases will be grade based (senior can't play on junior team) and they all pay the club unless getting fin aid.

Man, you are reaching. Take it up with the leagues and not the forum if you are looking for any results.

The people willing to cheat to get what they want will jump ship in a heartbeat. Cheaters dont suddenly start playing by the rules.
For you, it seems whoever competes against your DD is a cheater. You want grade, you don't want grade; in the end pushing for whatever protects your DD from competing seems like cheating to me.

Yes looking for ways to play down against younger players is cheating.
Sure the guy who wants to force August kids to play up so his kid can play younger players can be considered trying to cheat but the showcase grad year for U17 and up push is from college coaches and leagues not parents.

No its not. It's the same cheaters looking for ways to play down as always.

Whats ironic about this rumor is the holdbacks want to be seen in club as the same grade they are in school. This is because recruiting is much easier when you play on your correct grade in school team and arent misaligned. Sound familiar Aug birthday parents?

100%

Unfortunately cheaters are always looking for ways to cheat. This u17 play down "rumor" is cheaters trying to take advantage of the confusion around the BY to SY switch. Once we start playing SY college coaches will be happy again because almost all players on the field will be the same graduating year.

Its funny if you take a step back and look at the u18 on u17 teams rumor. What they're saying is being discussed is a waivers program. But they wont call it that because everyone knows waivers just end up being sold to the highest bidder.
The showcase change info isn't really a play down system. It's just 2 age groups being combined. Leagues already do this at the top age group so it really isn't anything new.

There are so many misaligned kids with grade and the age groups that making a wider age group and then shuffling by grad year is a great idea for a essentially a few game exposition.

Its strait cheating by playing older players on younger teams.

Just another example of age guys hypocrisy. He does the same thing with rae. When it suits his discussion he'll use rae. When it doesnt suit his discussion he'll ignore it.

As an example Aug birthdays who are 13 months younger playing up so they can be on the correct grade in school team he says is bad. But 24 month older play downs / holdbacks at showcases is good in his head.

It's really not.

What you're suggesting is some games are GY.

Go play high school soccer if you want to play GY sports.

All the reason for just to by age. Leave grade out of it. That's the best way.

You cant, thats the issue with SY.

Which means you need to follow the rules as closely as possible. If US Soccer or a league wants to implement a league wide play down / holdback waiver program. Then it needs to be tabled in a committee and discussed and approved by all leagues and us soccer representatives.

The HUGE downside if doing GY from u17 on is that clubs will lose all kinds of money because players will start quitting Junior year bevause of the play downs.

That is interesting...

Holdbacks are looking for ways to play down so their grade in school is aligned with their level played in club.

But age guy is always trying to say that being misaligned is no big deal when it comes to Aug birthdays being misaligned by playing on grade down teams.

Which is it? Seems like all age guy wants to do is play older players against younger ones.

It is interesting that age guy seems to want older players to play down so they can be on their correct grade in school team. But he doesnt think younger players should play up to be on their correct grade in. school team.

Glosses over that college recruiting works best when players arent misaligned and on their correct grade in school team.

Hypocrisy at its finest.

All the reason for just to by age. Leave grade out of it. That's the best way.
The leagues and clubs currently keeping grade out of groups is what they do. Age has a fairness component and document component that grade doesn't.

Making a couple of exhibition games for older recruits by grade wouldn't effect youth soccer but would help college coaches. The showcases by grade ironically wouldn't make a difference for mislagined recruits because college coaches don't care about your age or age group.

Starting to feel like a road map is being drawn. Play on age (avoid being the youngest and quiting if possible) and recruiting will handle itself when you are older and teaching out to recruiters, doing ID sessions, and showcases by grade.
