"Long haul bus riders"? You do like some hyperbole with your whine, don't you? |
| Further, in the data APS recently provided, AF was not chosen for redistricting by most submitters. It's clear the school board is doing whatever they want and this whole boundary tool and input from the community is a giant farce. |
I don't see how it's an exaggeration. Easy walk through neighborhoods and Ballston to W-L versus a bus headed across major roads and down Carlin Springs in heavy morning traffic. It will be quite the distant and time consuming journey. No way that kids could do it on foot. And APS says they value proximaty? |
Kids in Arlington Forest are closer to Wakefield than many other kids in the county are to their proposed high schools. |
| Enough already. Just make a damn choice. Racists will always howl. |
fixed |
APS also said that they suspect some people were submitting the same suggestions over and over and over. I actually do think the the school board should make a decision here and be done with it. The notion that we will come to some sort of community consensus on this is absurd. Someone is going to be unhappy no matter what is decided. The decision should not be made by those who have the loudest voices. |
Yeah, because there's no heavy traffic in Ballston. What are you people smoking, seriously? |
APS says they value proximity among other priorities. That means that proximity must be balanced with the other priorities. |
You're the one smoking something if you interpret "walk through Ballston" to have anything to do with traffic. |
| A bus ride from Arlington Forest is quicker than a walk to W-L. Kids might not be able to leave at the last minute, so maybe they'll have to leave the house sooner, but we're talking minutes here. |
Just think of it as an opportunity for your kids to learn better time management. |
take G Mason Dr. or the bike path. |
Which is illegal by law. APS is above the law, it appears. At least in Loudoun it wasn't allowed... |
I think due to congestion around Ballston, the drive from AF to W-L and the drive from AF to Wakefield are pretty close. But there is no disputing the walk from the neighborhood to W-L is shorter and the bike routes are safer. The walk from AF to Wakefield via George Mason is much longer than on the bike path. But I would not let my kids walk or bike on the bike path - I won't even walk or bike on it myself if I'm alone. It's very isolated and in the 10+ years we've lived here there have been enough crime reports involving that stretch that for our family it's a non starter. |
